While Joseph felt in love for her, Isabella did not feel the same way about him, she was a melancholic girl and obsessed or frightened of death, they were rumours about that isabella was in love with Christina. Both of them were intimate friends.

If the Spanish agreed with Joseph II that he marries the younger sister of Isabella of Parma, he would be happy. He proposed that the Spanish court choose from one of her sisters to marry Charles IV of Spain. Maria Amalia, Maria Josepha, Maria Carolina, and Maria Antonia were available then. (Assuming Johanna Gabriela didnt die, everything would have workout for the Habsburg-Lorraine Dynasty)

Legal marriages were considered transactional ( propert, $$, political) until the mid 1800s. Queen Victoria's marriage was one of the first royal couples based on love, before everyone else got involved. The Victorian Era was highly romantic.

Albert is not a polish prince, he was a Saxon prince and was Duke of Teschen, a territory in Silesia but with the capital in Karlsruhe.
@TheBeccaMoura5 ай бұрын
The duchy of Teschen was a "gift" from Maria Theresa after he married Maria Christina. Albert was the son of the King of Poland, Augustus III and Archduchess Maria Josepha.
@sebastianazocar23685 ай бұрын
@@TheBeccaMoura yes, Albert was both a Polish and Saxon prince, while Prussia annexed mostly of Silesia, a tiny party of the region remained in Austrian hands, one of them was the duchy of Teschen . Thus the Polish monarchy was elective, he would have the dignity of Polish prince like the rest of her brothers until the death of his father in 1763 because the Wettin were Germans, not like Polish noble families like the Sobieski or the Poniatowski. And yes, Teschen was a gift of wedding from Maria Theresa the Albert and Christina, later the empress appointed the couple to rule in the Netherlands and Hungary.
@sebastianazocar23685 ай бұрын
Also Albert and Christina were second cousins because Maria Josepha, wife of the king of Poland August III was Maria Theresa’s first cousin thus daughter of late emperor Joseph I. In the past, she recognised the pragmatic sanction and renounce her rights to the territories of the Habsburg monarchy, not like her sister Amalia, the wife of late emperor Charles VII(Charles Albert of Bavaria) that she reclaimed her rights because of primogeniture.

When I went to Vienna to the tombs of the Hapsburgs, I was struck by how little it all means now. All those fancy tombs, all those important titles and it is just lost to time like anything else. For all the pomp and theatre, they don't matter any more than anybody else now except that you pay 7 euro to see the tombs. All that lark for what? Time took care of the lot of them.

The Spanish branch will always remain relevant to me. Sadly, most of their tombs are in Spain (an exception with Emperor Ferdinand probably). It was like the first world empire, from having domains in Europe, America, Asia and Pacific. The Manila-Acapulco galleon trade also opened doors to other cultures. The Austrian branch needed to keep themselves fancy and relevant as descendants of the Spanish branch. The Spanish branch were good multitaskers too lol, from dealing with inbreeding and running the empire all at the same time.

So, they didn't film anything about Maria-Christina and her relationships with mother?🤔 If she is already engaged to Albert and it is just mentioned like this and like this is not a big deal...
@Lily1127channel5 ай бұрын
Well, the timeline is very off 😅 Like, MC was only engaged to Albert years after this, after Isabella's death. But the series is just off the rails timelinewise. I think Marie Antoinette should be about 5-6 at Joseph's wedding, and there was already a scene with Marie "growing up" before this. But it is also true that this season 3 just has to skip a lot of things, because it shows about 20 years in 120 minutes (which was not a good decision...). So it skips many things regarding MT's children. MC is on screen a lot relatively, but there are still many things not shown about her. Her first crush Louis and her heartbreak is not shown at all, her relationship with Albert is also not shown in many details, only that she chose him herself and she was the only one MT allowed such liberty.
