Marvellous and insightful, great work! I am always amazed by the fluency of these works, how everything just fits as it should; the same is true of Beethoven or Mahler... It‘s just completely right despite the vast differences... and I wish I had such a profoundly potent gift for coherence on such a level...

Thank you for your comment! And I agree: Tchaikovsky has been "accused" more than once to be a superficial composer (but so have Mendelssohn and Puccini for example) but I see not superficiality in his works. What I do see is a great understanding of structure, just like Beethoven or Mahler as you mentioned, that is coupled by the freshness of his melodic invention. It just flows very naturally.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights. Me and my mom are going to a classical concert for the first time next month, and this is one of the repertoires. Getting introduced to the piece from a conductor’s perspective before go listening to it really helps! :)

Thank you very much for this analysis, I’m about to conduct this extraordinary symphony and I found many interesting things in your video! Just a simple observation: the last note of the bassoon is not lower than that of the double basses. 😉 Thanks again!

yep, lower than the cellos but a fifth higher that the double basses. I think I either misread the script or my notes (pun intended :D ). Thanks for pointing it out, and thank you for your kind comments!
