A couple of days ago I simple melody started playing and replaying in my head. A tune I knew I'd heard before - it took some time to realize it was from a Tchaikovsky symphony and getting my old records out, that it was from the finale of the 2nd symphony. Culminating in listening to this version! Mr. Gergiev, please keep creating and ignore the fact that, at the moment, so many in the West are only good at cancelling culture.

Correct. The beauty of the creations of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, etc. should have given us respect for and peace with Russia. Instead, the warmongers and military-industrial complex profited, and hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians have died for nothing.

There’s something about this symphony and nobody being able to make a recording of it that’s quite right. I don’t understand, because it’s not a difficult work. Yes, timing is off in places; personally, I’m content that the intonation is consistently decent.

Well played. Tchaikovsky's shortest symphony. Much more pleasant to listen to than to play from the woodwind standpoint. Can't say much for the camera work so I won't. Hope the lighting was better on the music than was on the players. Why are the performers not listed on the credits at the end? Without them there wouldn't be a performance.

@@manueljoseblancamolinos8582 I didn't know the first version survived! I knew Tchaikovsky was dissatisfied with the first version, and heavily revised it, but I thought he attempted to destroy all copies of the first version. Apparently he didn't succeed. I'd be interested to compare the two.

Your joking , in many cases that's exactly the point. He could have a concert in the morning , say in Turkey, and at the night of the same day - in Israel ( or even in Japan). But specifically in this record the tempo isn't that fast - I think it's more about Russian borderless spirit , foreigners don't always get.

In context of the recent events in Ukraine it might be interesting to know that the title "Little Russian" was NOT by Tchaikovsky but the Russian critic Nicholas Kashkin and it was at that time seemingly a demeaning name for the Ukraine regions that had come under Tsarist domination. Maybe it is time to stop using this term? If you need a subtitle you could well use "Ukrainian" instead. This would meake sense as the theme in the last movement is from the Ukrainian folk song "The crane".

In the context of all events, Ukraine during Tchaikovsky’s life was part of Russia. Tchaikovsky himself uses the term Little Russia in his day books. So please don't mislead people. In 2014, with the support of the West, a criminal, neonazi regime came to power in Ukraine. Since then they have been trying to destroy everything Russian (monuments, books), but history cannot be fooled. Art will win.
@dlineful
@dlineful Ай бұрын
Not true, some Ukranians now started to believe this, but this is more because of Galician myths taking over the whole nation. The term "littler rossia" comes from Constantinople and was used to denote a church eparchy, which was smaller than the rest of the divided Rus. It then was adopted by the elites - the first "Ukranians" constitution of Philip Orlik proudly calls the land "Little Rossia".

As Gergiev did with the First Symphony in this series, why the encore immediately after the ending of the symphony? Most unwelcome.

The video definitely cuts a couple minutes of applause, since it is rhythmic right before they start the encore, which only happens after a few exits and reentrances of the conductor.
