Mario’s Bette Davis late 80s voice in excellent! I watch this just to hear it! Very entertaining!!!

Hard to believe that Mario Cantone is 64 years old! He could easily pass for someone in their 40s.

I love both these movies and both these men. What a delight to see them brilliantly playing off each other. Ben so serious, Mario so outrageous yet never a false step between them. I had the inestimable honor of shaking Ben's hand at the 2010 TCM Festival only to embarrass him with what was, I admit, far too close to a shameless flirt. But how could I help it? He's a treasure. Only wish I'd fixed things by letting him know I honor him as Hollywood royalty and would die before disrespecting him.

4:50 Thanks for asking about if Charlotte was being taken away for murdering Miriam and Drew. I always wondered about that when I watched It as a young kid and also to this day. I guess it's left up to the viewer. 💀☠️💀

2:30 and 2:34 a couple of idiots who don't do research (the people who do the research too if that's the case). Of course, that tale of Joan holding onto Bancroft's Oscar for a year is not true. It's well known (and can easily be looked up) that Joan delivered the Oscar to Bancroft a month after the ceremony. The Oscars were on the West Coast and Bancroft on the East. But why Joan took a month is because she had prior obligations to Pepsi.

Bette Davis was a great liar, not a great actress.

If Joan was in that movie, it would've been a better, much biggest movie, so sad that Bette pushed her out

She DID sing HUSH... HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE on a talk show... And, big secret, it was also the better film.
@Garsons-oq4lh Жыл бұрын
Only in the eye of the beholder is it a better film. Down to the nitty gritty, it isn't much better than Strait Jacket or Dead Ringer. Hush Hush though actually owes itself to Les Diaboliques 1955.
@prometheustree-m9w Жыл бұрын
@@Garsons-oq4lh... You think CHARLOTTE "isn't much better" than sloppy, sloppy STRAIT-JACKET?? Sometimes the eyes of the beholder are closed shut like a steel trap.
@Garsons-oq4lh Жыл бұрын
@@prometheustree-m9wOr Dead Ringer or The Nanny. But if we were talking about filmmaking sloppiness, then there is in Hush. For instance, the slapping scene in the car is chock full of fake slaps and fake slap noises that don't go together. There are also shots of another actress in the taxi when Miriam arrives and later when Miriam and Charlotte drive away from the house to dispose of Drew's body.
@prometheustree-m9w Жыл бұрын
@@Garsons-oq4lh .. No. CHARLOTTE and BABY JANE and even THE NANNY were A-level productions. DEAD RINGER was, essentially, B-plus. Sadly, the most promising one of them all was the worst: STRAIT-JACKET, a tacky C-minus production.

@@Garsons-oq4lh Not quite. An American version of _Les Diaboliques_ , titled _Reflections of Murder_ , was made by ABC in 1974, starring Tuesday Weld, Joan Hackett, and Sam Waterston. In 1993, another made-for-television film remake was made; this one was titled _House of Secrets_ , and it starred Melissa Gilbert. In 1996, the film was remade again as _Diabolique_ , adapted by Don Roos, directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik, and starring Sharon Stone and Isabelle Adjani in the leading female roles, with Chazz Palminteri as the husband and Kathy Bates as the detective.

The only thing that would have made this better? Mario's Agnes Morehead impersonation! Come on Mario! I know you have one!
@Garsons-oq4lh Жыл бұрын
How exactly would Mario have been able to impersonate Agnes Moorehead's voice? Unlike Bette, Agnes has no vocal tics for easy impersonation.
@craigadams4143 Жыл бұрын
@@Garsons-oq4lh in reference to HUSH , HUSH , SWEET CHARLOTTE, Agnes has a very distinctive "southern accent" and has some of the best lines in the movie. She steals every scene that she's in , even with due respect to Bette , Agnes is the one you watch and listen to...👀👁️👁️👂🗣️

Joan did not keep the Oscar for two years. She gave to Bancroft a few weeks later when Mother Courage was still playing on Broadway. Bancroft confirmed this after Davis continued to push her version of the story, which was an outright lie.

Joan's Miriam was never intended to be a "nice" character. From the start, the audience is to know she is NOT a woman to be trifled with - and that she is only there for her own self interests. Because of the re-fashioning of the character, people think the character was supposed to be "sweet" until the second half of the film - but, that's not true. That change occurred in the script in order to get de Havilland to agree to play the character. One scene originally involved Miriam smacking Velma across the face while arguing with her. Originally, when Miriam arrives to the mansion, she is supposed to be confronted by Charlotte holding a shotgun on her (not knowing it's Miriam), with the taxi driver hiding and cowering, with Miriam stepping out of the cab, looking squarely at Charlotte and yelling for her to "stop pointing that damn thing at me!" That was the velocity that Miriam was supposed to exude. Also, it wasn't originally meant to be hidden until late in the film that Miriam and Drew were conspiring against Charlotte. It was that premise which added the suspense to the film. The shock isn't supposed to be that Miriam and Drew are the villains, the shock is supposed to be the discovery of the murderer's identity from 1927.

You 2 are great! Mario such of impersonations. i have seen "Baby Jane" many times. "Charllotte was fine, the acting good, yet not as campy or fun, yet a bit disturbing. Would Joan Crawford have better than Olivia DeHavilland t's hard, to tell. Joan had those intense eyes, but Olivia seemed a bit regal/aristocratic. I will try to watch it soon

The sheriff nor the mental institution rep saw Charlotte receiving the letter from Mr. Wills. Once the contents are read, my take is that things would turn out better for her.

This movie is a feast of over acting and camp. Actually, Olivia De Haviland was terrific in this film. Better than Joan Crawford would have been. Her innocent affect covered over the evil woman she really was. Another movie than had many unintentionally funny scenes.
