It was very touching how she cried at the end when she talked about her friend Montgomery Clift. Doris Day did the same in her tribute to Rock Hudson.

I think these women were truly compassionate women. I don’t know if their upbringing, their religious convictions played any part in it but like Paul Newman they were either raised in Christian Science, or practiced it off and on as adults. But nevertheless I think all three of them had beautiful caring humanitarian souls.

56 years gone today but never never forgotten. What a terrific actor he was! His films are constantly being discovered by new generations. I don't blame Elizabeth for loving him. He might have been one her first and only husband had circumstances been different. My favorite western is Red River. He holds his own with John Wayne, No easy feat, but he does. He is so good in From Here To Enternity. I love him and Elizabeth in Sun and Raintree Country, a most underrated film. You were the best and most romantic actor of your generation. Thank you Monty for those 17 films you left behind.

Yes, I've sometimes wondered if they both wouldn't have been happier f they'd married each other and just had lots of affairs with other men. That kind of relationship might have given them more stability. Pointless to wonder, really, but sometimes these things just pop into my head.

These tributes to Monty always leave out my favorite film of his, The Search. He was perfect in that film and I think it helped his performance that it wasn't centered on a romance with a woman but a kind of fatherly role to a little boy survivor of the Holocaust who is traumatized and missing his mother. If you haven't seen that film you haven't seen Monty.

What a wonderful woman was Liz Taylor. Her compassion was truly amazing. She loved Monty Clift, even though she knew he had deep self-destructing problems. Too bad she couldn't save him!

Sorry to say, but I don´t think anybody could have saved him. All the love and compassion everyone have been given him for years, that´s great and he deserved it, but that would have been more useful for him while he was still alive, that could, possibly have saved him, but the last years of his life he was completely forgotten and got no jobs. Liz did what she could and that´s great of her.

One of the best and most talented actors to ever live, James Dean and Monty would have been good together in a movie maybe.Elizabeth Taylor's words regarding Clift are deeply personal and touching, when she tears up at the end her feelings for her lost friend go above and beyond what words can say about someone like him.

I remember Rod Steiger giving an interview about Montgomery Clift. He commented on how "beautiful" Montgomery Clift was, before his auto accident. He kept underscoring how good looking a man Monty was. I was a bit surprised to hear this coming from Rod Steiger. I'm sure all of the masculine man in Hollywood would have said the same. His accident changed his face and it had to have an affect on his confidence and self esteem.

I can't help thinking it went beyond looks. His eyes changed so much - he had a haunted, almost hunted look from then on. Addiction was beginning to affect not just his looks, but his brain. And he had to lead a double life, which would only add to the strain.

I think Matt Bomer should play Monty and Lilly Collins play Elizabeth Taylor. They both physically match the two Hollywood stars, but especially Lilly Collins. She reminds me of a young Taylor in her prime. Their age difference is roughly about the same as Elizabeth's and Monty's.

nicky rimbaud So false. These beautiful, talented people, who shared and survived tragedy together and apart, had rich lives and relationships. If out of all their chaos they found a safe place in each other, it was more profound than looks or longing. Those things are fleeting, their love was lasting. A decade after Monty was scarred for life, Elizabeth went to bat for him so they could co-star in Reflections of a Golden Eye. Sadly, Monty died before filming began. Elizabeth continued to pay tribute to him, and the other men she loved and lost, for the rest of her days. They were one of the reasons she became one of the most aggressive AIDS activists before the president could even say the word.
@UNOwen-eh8er
@UNOwen-eh8er 6 жыл бұрын
nicky rimbaud Again you trivialize them to appearance. Many beautiful people arrive in Hollywood. Few prosper, some don't even survive. Obviously these two had more than their looks going for them. Certainly Monty had more going for him that he was plucked from Broadway to star opposite John Wayne. Elizabeth went from Lassie to Williams to Shakespeare to Martha. They both did roles that were independent of their appearance.
@UNOwen-eh8er
@UNOwen-eh8er 6 жыл бұрын
nicky rimbaud This is not an exchange. I disagreed with your original premise, your final statement shows you are ignorant of their careers. Clift played Freud and a mentally challenged concentration camp survivor. Taylor played Louella Parsons, a middle-aged housewife plastic surgery patient, and Fred Flintstone's mother-in-law. You underestimate their talents.

Monty, one of the "greats" for sure ... Taylor deserved to suffer heavy guilt and remorse for INSISTING Monty come to her little drinking party @house of the Wildings when he BEGGED to decline as he was already heavily doped and inebriated -- Dear loving "friend" ET selfishly self-indulgent HAD to have it HER WAY ... Poor Monty... Taylor was greatly responsible for his devastating car accident which ultimately led to his death in 1966---and to top it all off Taylor cried over how she saved his life...........Look it up - or read any one of many books on ET ... Very interesting content, but the music is TOO LOUD! I couldn't hear the narration, so I turned on the closed caption titles, and Oh My God, I don't think the transcriptionist could hear the narration, either. The spelling (I think Monty is spelled about six ways, and sometimes given a pronunciation that NO ONE can understand where it came from). I guess (deaf) beggars can't be choosers.
