Acclaimed writer, Khawaja Muhammad Zakariya was 9 years old when he left his homeland to migrate to Lahore. He recalls his childhood in Amritsar, the movement of Pakistan led by Jinnah and the political instability in Pakistan after its birth in 1947.
This is the fifth episode of ‘Witness to Partition’ produced in collaboration with ‪@scentsnstories‬.
TCM’s five-year journey has been about telling stories that people want to hear which mainstream media has been neglecting for decades. We want to disrupt the status quo by delivering engaging content which empowers impassioned voices and impacts social change. Mr. Zakariya has not given the reason behind Hindu water and Muslim water, which was because Hindus in Punjab/UP/MP/Rajasthan were mainly #vaishnavites vegetarian/did #not eat beef, whereas Muslims were mainly non-vegetatian and #ate beef. That's why the utensils were different. In areas where Hindus were Shaivites non-vegetarian (such as Kashmir, Bengal, Kerala) there was no such problem, except that Hindus would only eat vegetarian food when invited by Muslims because of fear of being served 'beef'

Very nice presentation by the Elderly Gentleman.. Whenver I hear those sad/painful partition stories, I feel, Partition was a disastrous decision. If it was compelling - then a time line (of 6-8 months for re-location) should have been given and that would have saved millions of precious lives. Dividing and declaring immediately was what lead to such large scale violence

Myself a retired Lecturer from Eastern Punjab Education Department, Since my Pry.and even Middle classes,Untouchability against lower sections of Hindu ,Sikh and Muslim Community was dominant ,later ,the situation improved with the passage of time.It was, perhaps, I think due to their lower professions and moreover their eating trends like Slaughtering Cows etc. This was the main cause root of quarrel between Hindus Sikhs versus Muslims .
@mahinderpal9404
@mahinderpal9404 Жыл бұрын
@Mian tech There no specific reason that only Muslims are targeted everywhere , people of other religions and communities are also being targeted by one way or the other just to keep Dominance of one Particular Community over the other,so, brother,in order to live with communal harmony,giving due respect to the feelings and beliefs of one community to other is the need of the hour,here,the word Slaughtering of cows is quoted just only for example not to hurt your feelings.

good that partition happened, in hindsight it was a good decision. still so many poor and uneducated muslims chose to stay back, though the entire upper and middle class moved to Pakistan. many did not have the money to buy a rail ticket to Pakistan. and some were close to their ancestors' properties and graves in UP/CP/Bihar, 3 brothers moved and 1 stayed back in lucknow to take care of property; for many in UP/CP/Bihar, Pakistan was like a desert where camels ran.

With due respect sir there were such things that time but it wasn't due to hate but food choice what I have heard. Muslims and Dalits used to eat non veg foods and butcher animals which non-muslims and non dalits didn't do that time. So there were such issues as non muslim faith restricts non veg and blood etc. Now people are educated and the Indian constitution and laws avoid such things. Anyways I loved hearing you ❤️ from India.

@@sandipbhattacharyya7540 it was indeed. Human civilization is slightly slow in Asian countries. If we go back a thousand years from today think of the status of women in society, cast , religious division etc. That time there was monarchy and societies were divided basis the class/cast etc for eg: King used to be Rajpoot, Brahmins were in education, While other cast were in service which made them make low progress and yes social bias were there. Now we are no more ruled by King so all rules are based constitution and things are equal for everyone. Mentally it takes centuries to get rid of such bloody things 😀

My grandfather passed away in 2021..He was 90 years old at that time. He told me stories about pre independence India. Anyways, If present day Pakistan stopped using terrorist groups against the Indian Army, and did the required efforts to stop terrorism, it would've been a nicer experiance to meet or greet the common people of Pakistan someday. Likewise if Indian freed Kashmir under UNSCR 47 (1948) 😮 and stopped persecuting Muslims and gave them their right to be equal citizens, and stopped funding terrorists groups in Baluchistan and trying to discredit Pakistan then sure we can get along. India act like a creepy guy who can’t get over the fact that we didn’t want to be with you.

how did his father manage to flee from jalianwala bagh it was surrounded by high walls from all sides with a single nerrow entery/exit lane blocked by british soldiers (position from where they were firing on the crowd) because of no escape route people jumped in the well present in the ground and died but his father managed to escape while others couldn't strange

Might be that his father was spy of bristish army and escaped before firing started ...also he says about baloch army which is complete lies ....balochistan was forcefully occupied by pakistan in 1956 till then it was independent nation ...so how come baloch army would have participated in transferring pakistani mohajirs .....babu phek to rahe hain ....

Kyu k sirf punjab ko divide kiya gaya tha. Agar Punjab or bengal ki tarhan UP MP bihar Maratha ko divide kiya jata to or Muslims kee or countries banai jatee to muslims un mai he rahty. Pakistan indian muslims kay liya nahi banaya gaya. Pakistan sirf natives kay liya banaya gaya tha kyu kay Pakistan kay natives ka majority religion Islam tha or hai. Agr zayada he shook hai to apni states ko muslims or hindus mai divide kar kay muslim or Christians ki ek or country banaaa do. Phir tumhain apny sawal ka jawab mill jaaay gaaa. Tumhari territory mai bhe 100% hindus hoo jayn gaaay. Or muslim sikh Christian country jo nharat ko kaaat kar banaya jaaay gaaa who bhe 100% hindu free ho jaaay gee. Pakistan indian muslims kayy liya nahi blk local muslim population kay liya banaya gaya hai. Its was only partition of punjab so population exchange occurred within punjab between punjabis. Sikhs hindus of west punjab migrated to east punjab and Muslims of east punjab migrated to west punjab

Very nice frank narration. Untouchability sowed seeds for partition I don't understand why it happened when we have food at restaurants we don't see who used which cup and tea plate hindu mussalman Brahmin or shundra drink in same cup then why this. Perhaps social divide and intolerance was the main root cause other could be economic and political one.

There were no Balochs in the so called Baloch regiment as Jinnah attacked the Kalat state to own it for minerals like gold and copper. Kalat was not given to so called Pakistan. The sheer origin was decided in the UK by SOB Churchill and SOB Chamberlain under the divide and rule policy to keep India at war and avoid another Japan from rising.

If U are a good muslim pls answer why you killed millions of Bengali Hindus in great calcutta killings in 1946. Hazrat bal fiasco which happened in kashmir but u killed Bengali Hindus in collaboration with fake liberal bangladeshi muslims in 1964. Then again in 1971 in Khulna after which Hindus became minority in Khulna.
