@@SlayerSaberagree. The board of WTA has to chsnge completely. How can man understsnd women esoecially in needs in sports and the bosses in the WTA are man egich is absolutely impossible to accept but it looks like the players have no power to chsnge that...Ekena said what 1GA said a day earlier but more delicately not pointing as direct at the organizers who did nit cope well with many problems affecting players. 1GA was on court 14 hours playing with Muchova on and off. It is redicukous that such a tournament with very long tradition does nit hsve even one court with a roof to put in case of rain. It is not a poor country. As the effect of rediculous decisions the final was quick and looked like training nit a final.of WTA1000. Samsonova looked and played like she wanted to just very quickly get off the court ant finish the match. Jessica had the time to recover after the match and played concentrated on every ball an easily won the final. Though this year there were aother tournaments were the matches started at 11 pm and lasted till 2 a.m and over. WTA seem to not care for its players at all. Very said. Best regards

Decisions regarding the schedule of the day or the opening of the roof are made by the WTA representative at each tournament. The organizers must comply with this. All criticism then falls on the tournament, and the WTA bosses remain with their stupid decisions in the shadows, not held accountable for anything. They decided to play in China, maybe the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia, and the moral questions about that are asked to top players in press conferences, not to WTA management.

Good for her for speaking out. There has to be contingency planning in the event of bad weather. Players are not robots. Samsonova played well but Rybakina's shoulder injury was clearly a handicap in the last two sets. I feel sorry for Samsonova. She has reached a tournament final and has to play 3 hours after winning the semi final. Frankly it's ridiculous.

@@KanatLS And Samsonova was serving 36% in the 1st. Rybakina would have still lost the 2nd and 3rd sets with a higher 1st serve percentage because without aces she was still losing points on 1st serves. Tennis is about more than serves and hitting return winners, Rybakina needs to learn how to defend and move around the court to set up easier shots.

She said "...Luda..." glancing at the reporter who said Jessica. I love it. Elena is my tennis queen and I hope she does much better in Cinci and USO. Congrats to Liudmila, and to Jessi on winning the open. Cover one or two medium size courts so it costs less than to put a roof over the larger ones. And/or, when finalists go this far or restless into the final, schedule them to play on Monday regardless of lesser views and attendance, and place them in the latest Bye-day possible regardless of their ranking. The WTA, ITF and tour directors CAN do this. Have these players-tiresome days FREE on KZbin, FB, whatever, and have advertisements so as to reduce any monetary losses.

I'm extremely proud of our Elena, everything she said was spot on and I also loved the way she complimented the staff. But these organizers need to have their heads examined. They should have scheduled the match against Daria immediately after Pagula's. It was like they were waiting for the rain. Obviously no ability to think outside the box although I guess it was TV scheduling that was to blame. Although this will cause her to lose the 3rd seed ranking the principal concern is her health🙏. Have to say it was great to see her pissed off and remaining a lady, love her to bits 💜💜. At least this gets Rome somewhat off the hook.

It's not the tournament's fault. Such decisions are made by the WTA representative present on site. And this was emphasized by Elena, saying that this is not the first time. I can add to this 3 Iga matches at midnight and after 1 am in Madrid (without any weather reason). When she criticized it, everyone scolded her. Iga's match with Elena in Rome, when Iga got injured at 12 am and Elena's final in Rome at 11 pm (both matches in light rain).

Rybakina's match ended at 3:30 AM, and without any time for recovery, she had to compete in the semifinals. One might even question whether Rybakina dropping out in the semifinals could be considered a fortunate outcome. Samsonova had to go straight from the semifinals to the final and is currently struggling. This is clearly an unfair situation for the players.
@ulasliz

Plus everyone who is now criticizing Samsonova for a sloppy final should know that she also had little time to rest, as she had to play a match against Sabalenka and Bencic (several hours apart) in a short time. Excellent words, Elena. I hope the WTA leaders start thinking about turning this into a 10 day event. No use for some players to play two qualifying rounds and yet not to make it into the first round. The late starts were a joke. Wimbledon for instance has a 22:00 or 23:00 hrs curfew and that's it. Poor Elena was treated pretty bad this year, just thinking of her late matches in the cold at Rome. All the best to you!

It was the health damaging schedule... As a Canadian patriot, I must say Canadian blue blood employers are well known here for creating health damaging schedulles, especially for health care - nurses and care aides. Used to work here part time 15-18 hours a day for a while with the professional unions overlooking through fingers. It changes now, squeaking wheels get greased. I could recommend creating a professional union of the tennis players that could protest against the health damaging schedulles, against playing in the poor weather conditions - windy situations, playing after dark, playing toors before 3-5 days of acclimatization.

The WTA praises itself in its bio's. "Founded by Billie Jean King in 1973 on the principle of equal opportunity, the WTA is the world leader in women's professional sports." In light of the recent mistreatment -- and outright abuse -- of its athletes in Montreal (and past scheduling nightmares this season) they should be ashamed for considering themselves a 'world leader in sports'. Even more, they should be dragged across the court for their silence and inaction in addressing players' health concerns. Instead of watching players grind their bodies into burning muscle masses and suffer unnecessarily to get through a Semi, then a Final a couple hours later, WTA, Billie Jean King, et al, should be placed on their knees at Centre Court to explain their inept and unconscionable behaviors. Where were WTA rep's, the sponsors, and Billie Jean King the other morning when Rybakina and Kasatkina were suffering at 3:00am? Even the ancient Romans realized they had to give some degree of healthcare to their sacrificial subjects if they wanted to present an adequate show in the Coliseum.

@@jimmyfox No, it is because Samsonova knows how to beat her. If you can outpower or match Rybakina’s power in the rallies when she isn’t hitting errors then she won’t get a single point without aces, unreturnable serves and return winners(which accounted for almost every point Rybakina got after the 1st set). Rybakina doesn’t run for balls, she can’t hit balls while she is running and she doesn’t move around the court to change her position to redirect and otherwise change the strike zone of your shot(meaning your winner in the beginning of the point is likely still a winner at the end of the point and you can simply redirect the rally in that direction to win the point every time against her). Rybakina wins purely from force of will or overpowering the opponent, she hits aces when she needs to, hits return winners when she needs to, and eventually you start missing your shots and she wins. Rybakina would be an awesome unbeatable table tennis player if she were shorter but that mix of determination and focus and luck is not enough to win tournaments week after week in tennis so she needs more.

And if she were, she would not have that powerful serve that made here such a champion. A little less theory and more reality please. Lindsay Davenport (1.90 m) should have played more like Steffi Graf (1.75)??

Canada needs better schedulers or a more weather enduring venue complete with covered stadiums, otherwise, just give up on the master 1000 event. Tennis fans around the world are watching and, WE ARE NOT IMPRESSED.

Rybakina needs to stop thinking her serves are going to get her through any match, her serving isn’t going to get that much better and realistically it shouldn’t have to because it is already great. She is already a better server than anyone on tour by quite a margin so her points to win matches have to come from rallies and that means better movement. Samsonova outmaneuvered Rybakina, that is the only reason why Samsonova won. Rybakina needs to learn how to move with a racket in her hand and hit shots on the move.

I have been closely following your posts and you make valid points almost all of the time, but don't you think her movement is also affected by the way how she is physically feeling after that match against Kasatkina and having to wait for the match to start yesterday instead of resting to recover for the semifinals vs Samsonova?

@@nonymcat5709 She has never been even a decent mover, it is a miracle that she has won any tournaments ever with the almost absolute lack of movement on the court that she has(and I say that as one of her fans). The only thing her injury affected was her serve and ground strokes and even then she was hitting hard enough to win points so it didn’t really matter. The entire reason why she is injuring herself in the first place is because she relies on hitting the ball extremely hard every time to get points. If she was getting more forced errors out of opponents and breaking opponents more often with rally balls that are not all slugfests then she would stop getting injured so much. I am entirely convinced that the only reason why she is more injured now than she used to be is because she keeps winning and playing more matches where she has to throw her arm and shoulder out just to keep winning. Her coach needs to help her learn how to play all aspects of tennis and not just keep relying on her hitting aces and return winners. She needs to learn how to play more like Pegula(who rarely ever gets injured)and less like Ostapenko(who doesn’t win because she isn’t as mentally strong as Rybakina).

Play more like Pegula, who has not reached any slam final till now, because she never gets injured… Dude have you ever played any sports on a competition level, not just for fun with your friends? It’s the highest level here. The players make sacrifices. I remember last year Nadal played the 1/4 in Wimbledon with a tore psoas and after winning he withdrew as well as basically has not recovered yet today. Also to even pretend for a 1.84 m female tennis player to play as a 1.7 m (who also reached the final because Swiatek played the worst Tennis ever, making a personal record of unforced errors) it’s like to pretend that Isner (“ace” god) should start to play like Alcaraz. 😂

crazy..insane..doesn't make any sense or whatsoever.. Basically Ryba & Sam already robbed any chances to win this tournament when they were handed out the semis & finals schedule. It basically as the same as forcing Katy Ledecky to swim in a 1600M olympic final just after 1 hour she completed the semis heat. ..the organiser & wta are definately to blame..they basically just don't care at all bout these players welfare.. INSANE!!! I am an avid fans of women tennis for many2 years..much2 more than men even when the big 3 was still active. But with what has been happening recently + this insanity..has tremendously drawn out my interest to watch anymore..😶😶😶 Hope u'll recover in time for the USO Ryba..it always a joy watching ur match & honestly i think u can win it this year..💙💙💙💙💙

I think that the issue is in these one week tournaments that some matches don't start until Wednesday. Let's get everyone playing on Monday, Tuesday at the latest. They try to keep the big matches, semi's and final for the Weekend but some of the 1st Round, QF can be earlier in the week. I know some players are yet to have a match until Thursday which is absurd. But also, a roof would be the answer too

WTA and Montreal scheduling was horrible. What a crappy final they got w Luda so exhausted. Does the NBA make LeBron James play two games two hours apart just for television? No sport but 🎾 treats its athletes so poorly. The people making the schedule of it for quarterfinals on the center court on one day with a rain forecast for the next day have never completed as professional athletes.

4 Quarterfinals on center court back to back until 3 AM, it was insane. Is the there a Court 1 that has capacity for a quarterfinal or 2?
