Well, I came back to this video after this weekend fishing with some friends (some of which are very good!), and ended up using my 9'5" 5wt Blackout (which I absolutely love!) and tossing a indicator rig. While I did great, I definitely would have connected with more fish using a Euro rig which everyone else was. IMO/experience the high end Orvis rods ARE worth the extra money and I will never call myself an expert and it all depends on where your coming from/where your personal experience lies. I saved up for a while for my 9'5"5 but will most likely settle for the recon for my first Euro rod as much as I'd like the 10'6" 3wt H3F 😂. Its also not a contest between brands but I know someone who has tons of rods, including high end Sages and let's just say they are more than impressed with what Orvis has to offer. I enjoyed the video and am always trying to learn and stay open minded. Made a bunch of new friends in the past year in the sport and hope to someday meet people like you on the water! Tight lines!

Thanks for the comments, Andrew, and I've been using this rod all season...it's a killer one! My only regret is that I didn't jump to an 11' rod sooner. I have a Recon and really find that to be a great rod, as well as the Moonshine Vesper ( amzn.to/3t2mcP1) which comes with 2 tips. It's a 10'6" 3 weight and my favorite at that price point. Have fun and enjoy that Blackout, you chose well there! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Well the chances of me spending $1,000 on a fly rod are not good, but thanks for the review. I win the lotto maybe I'll buy one but I guess I'd need to buy a ticket first. Keep the good stuff coming Tim.

Appreciate the kind words, and this is an early review. Opening day in Pennsylvania is this weekend and I'll be exclusively fishing the Blackout. More to report in the future. Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Hi Tim I enjoy listening to you and watching your videos. I realize most of your recommendations are sponsor driven. I wish you would give honest reviews. I never had much luck with Orvis Helios. Is it really as good as you are claiming?
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa Жыл бұрын
Hi John, and I'm unsure where you're getting the "sponsor-driven recommendations" from? I have always been transparent re: my positions within companies, as I'm currently an Ambassador for Semperfli and Stio. The decision to represent those companies was an easy one, as they each make some of the best products that I've used when it comes to tying and clothing. There are many rods that I have not connected with, hence you won't hear about them on my channel. This is based on my experiences and opinion, no ones else's. The Orvis H3 3D 9' 8 weight is an absolute favorite of mine, and this 11' Blackout is another. If you have specific questions as to how it compares to other nymphing rods, I'm happy to answer them: tcammisa@gmail.com Thanks, and have a great day! Tim

Hi Brian, thanks for the kind words. This rod has been great so far, as I recently used it during a caddisfly hatch...and all was right with the world! :-) I look forward to using this more extensively over the next few months and anticipate a formal review in the fall. I hope all is well with you. Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Well this sounds a lot like a paid review + affiliate link to promote Orvis product. Not here to hate, what I find the most amazing is that you actually have a Hanak. It's probably my biggest "deception" on all the videos I've seen lately. Either Sage R8 or this new Orvis. Maybe folks talk about the Echo or the T&T or previous Sage ESN maybe redignton. But WHEN will we actually hear about comparison with other rods from Europe? Hanak, Arcay, JMC, Vision... All of these are actually in the hands of many competitors in Europe and definitely not all are as expensive as the Sage or Orvis!

Hi Ben, thanks for sharing your opinion on this video, and I'm excited to see how this rod performs over the rest of the season. Since this was released, I've also fished a caddisfly hatch and had a chance to throw dry flies on it...super nice! The Hanak is another great stick, though I like the faster recovery of this Orvis (especially at the 11' mark). To see some other favorites, check here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2ebd3Whqt-ZsMU Tim

Buy a Clearwater, 99% of anglers can't tell the difference between a $250 and $1000 rod, especially for a nymphing rod.

Let me know what you think of the Orvis after you've used it a handful of times. The Hanak rod is exceptional, and one I still use. As I mentioned, it's been my go-to stick for a couple seasons, so lots of positives here! The 11' length of this Orvis just really makes fishing to some of those tough spots must easier to achieve. Thanks for the comment. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
