Id add two other sins, one of which you kind of alluded to and that is fishing too far away. Pay attention to whete your fly enters the water and where it exits the water... Does it cross seems? If so you re too far. Second would be the propensity to fish directly across from yourself. I would commit this one all the time as it tends to be the moat natural thing to do. Once i started angling my body slightly upstream and and prioritizing the upstream portion of the drift i started getting alot more success, especially in low clear water. Great video! Thanks 👍

put one box together of a variety of your best flies for that specific water before hand is what i do and its helped my back out lol

Great video! The Mop!! Chartreuse! When I fish 2 flies, more times than not I use a mop on point, and Tim's favorite, a perdigon above it. Using a go to is probably the sin I commit more than any other.

I always have a #16 pheasant tail jig on either single or dropper but jeeze it catches so so many trout 365 days day in day out !!

orange hotspot pt with no legs or dubbing just pheasant tail and orange hotspot has caught so many nice fish its my go to as well i always start off with it but it always works 16 jig pt as my point with a midge on the dropper is my go to nymph rig or contact rig lol

Another deadly sin (I'm a sinner, committed them all), is stepping in the water before you cast. I can't tell you how many times I have caught fish right by shore. Sneak up in stealth mode, don't wear bright clothing and stay low and be quiet up to the water. Oh there's a few more sins that that in euro nymphing buy you got most of the main ones. Oh, the good old heavy Czech Nymph flies, fun times ha. Great video Tim.

The biggest sin I have seen people comment other than what my buddy Carson said is actually a few things. One fly is the biggest but another major one is not covering all the water. I fished behind a guy that only fished the fast water or what he deemed good enough and he skipped the rest. I went in and fish all of the water he skipped and smacked them. Another sin is hesitating on the hook set. Carson did that when he was just starting out when I controlled him in comps. There are many more that I can think of but those are the major ones.

Thanks for the comments, Corey, and if we're being honest, there could be about 100 Euro nymphing sins! ;-) So what I hear you saying is I need to work on a second video. Ha ha! Covering water was briefly touched on, as I mentioned that I would fish the fast water with the system, then use other systems for differing water types. But learning Euro nymphing has definitely pushed me to other water types...which can be a steep learning curve. In the end, pushing yourself always pays off. Thanks again and I hope all is well. @@TimCammisa I am always pushing myself to tackle water I fish all the time but come at it from a different angle. One of these days we will have to link up and fish. I’m not claiming to be a perfect angler but any means but when you fish with others who are catching fish you tend to pick up on sone tricks and techniques.

I find the fly weight is a problem when fishing stonefly’s. Since I tie all my flies, this year I cut back on weight. There have been times these heavyweights worked like an anchor when stream conditions changed to slow water. I cut back on added weight by less wraps or going to the next lowest weight such as from size 20 , down to 15 or 10. Another thing is when I used brass beads I assumed there weight was much less than tungsten. Even though brass does weigh a little less adding too much lead or lead substitute was a sin you didn’t mention. Before, we always added split shot or removed them to get flies down. With euro nymphimg it’s a brand new game. So I worked on correcting that by using more tungsten or cutting back on added lead. Each stream is different. I think there is nothing wrong with adding split shot when euro nymphing. For some people, adding a short length of tippet to the point fly and adding weight to that tippet might help. (Dropshoting) At some point I think you can dial it in and have the right weight added when you tie flies with the primary streams you fish in mind.

Absolutely, Linton. The downside is if your indicator material is tied to the tippet ring, then it's a little close to the dry. If you're using a clear & thin leader, then definitely go with it. Also, if the tippet ring is further down the tippet, then that system would work, too. I prefer to keep my tag a bit shorter, but you still get a great drift with it. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
