I have a family member that goes to the Potter's house in Dallas ft Worth. I went with her once back in about 2012 and it just didn't feel right to me. That church is huge! And when I didn't go back with her again she got mad at me and started acting real nasty towards me. I haven't been close or really communicated with her since then. I'm just thankful to God for the power of discernment and to this day. I'm glad I trusted my gut feeling and I wish my sister well but I'm good with the distance between us. I'm thankful for it. I watched part of a sermon and was shocked when the minister scolded the congregation for not putting enough money in the offering plate and demanded that it be sent around again. He actually had the balls to tell the congregation that because he was their preacher, he deserved a Rolex watch. and what floored me is that they clapped and started shouting Amen and Praise the Lord. My family attended a small Penticostal church when I was growing up and had the preacher demanded money to buy a Rolex watch we would have had no problem standing up and walking out. I know many have had bad experiences attending institutional church. I have as well. The difference is I never allowed the actions of others to dissuade me from attending worship whether it was in a building, a home, a church,etc. We are to partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week in remembrance of Him. We are to meet together to edify one another and be edified. Hebrews 10:23-25. We sing together and pray together. Find people to worship with that love and honor God’s word and genuinely care about one another.
