Someone who believes they’re free of sin isn’t necessarily righteous. As a matter of fact, they probably aren’t. Only the Holy Spirit can make someone righteous and only God knows what is in someone’s heart. Jesus said “those who are free from sin, cast the first stone.” Not, those free from this PARTICULAR sin. And his last words as the religious people of that time crucified him, judging him as evil, was “father forgive them, they know not what they do.” Only Jesus was righteous and free from sin. And he asked for everyone to be forgiven. So it was and is done. We need to protect society from harm and maintain order via laws of the land which is why we have a justice system. Even within this system there’s still potential for corruption if humans are in charge? Which is why the focus needs to be on protecting the public. Not the swearing on the bible stuff or calling a human “your honour” or whatever. I also don’t think there should be heads of churches or hierarchy as a whole for that matter. Beyond that, “vengeance is the lord’s”. We’re called to “love our enemies and do good to those who hate us.” If you pray for people, pray that God’s will be done in their life. You will yourself receive much of the same as what you pray for or wish upon others.
