I Was Wrong! - Ecoflow Delta Max - A Few Corrections & Updates

A few corrections and new information to a review I published a few months ago on some of the problems with the Ecoflow Delta range of products.

After using the Ecoflow Delta Max for a few more months and working further on some of the problems I had been experiencing, I have managed to find workarounds for some of them.

I love Ecoflow products but I hate their customer service. I bought 2 delta max 2000 because I decided not to buy the expansion battery since it would be practically about the same price without being to charge it or use it separately. Because of the customer service I won't be buying anymore products from them, it is just too frustrating, but they did eventually make up for my frustrations. Pecron has now upped the game and their expansion batteries have dc ports and can be charged separately . Enjoyed your videos.

Customer service seems to be mixed. I've generally had fairly swift responses to enquiries and have had products replaced without too much hassle. It does seem a bit hit and miss though. So many companies cut corners here because the profitability and benefit of having good customer service is so much harder to measure. In my opinion, it's one of the most critical parts, particularly with an older customer base who are loyal and have money to spend.

The best bit I like about the Delta Max is that I am able to expand the capacity to around 6kWh.

Prior to retirement, I used to train 2nd level complaint operators, in a call centre for banking epos systems. Customer care in many companies is not what it used to be. It is now controlled by bean counters and legal people. Even skilled call centre operators are not allowed to use their initiative, or go off script - totally for legal and financial reasons.

RECOMMENDED SETTINGS FOR ALL ECOFLOW UNITS To get many years out of your battery go into Energy management settings and set them as follows. Discharge limit 30% charge limit 90% And if you have it plugged to AC or on solar in witch i recommended set the energy saving to 80% incase the power goes out. Also go into the AC charge setting and set that to optimized battery charging set to 500w so the battery does not get hot and shorten the life of your battery. Only use fast charging if the battery is completely flat for a one of quick charge as the battery gets hotter if you are charging fast all the time. Also one a month unplug the solar or AC depending with one you are using at the time and discharge to 35 % and then reconnect the solar or AC recharge to 85% then go back to the previous set up.😁😁👍👍👍

Oh, and I put a review up on a webpage and they deleted it.. I put another one up and they deleted that, I put another one up and it was deleted...they lie and want you to not know it. All I talked about was how bad the service is. My experiences. Not a bad word just how it is taking so long to get support to help.

Very interesting pair of videos, thank you. I considering one of these, or similar, to look at being able to charge my mobility scooter off grid to give me a wider range of camping options. Are there any other brands that you've looked at that you woild consider worth a look at instead? You mention Bluetti.

The Delta 2 has very accurate calibration on remaining time to charge/discharge - I wonder what they're doing differently?

I would say the different battery chemistry between Delta and Delta 2 but considering that every other multiple cell power station I've used with the same chemistry does it just fine, probably not. Maybe they just realised it's not very good and fixed it! 👍🏻

I have ordered a Delta Max. Sure hope the new generation comes. Both for the sake of quiet and the 2X XT60i inputs. What I did make note of, getting ready, is the mandatory app agreement. Does any one read these things? The indemnity clause is nuts. Say; the unit fails in a way that your insurance company gets involved and sues Ecoflow, you must pay for Ecoflow's counter suit. With out the app, much control is lost, like the default xt, which I think is set the wrong way.

Yes. All devices like this have a certain drain just being 'live'. I guess it's similar to having a normal appliance on standby. E.g. the Wi-Fi module will be powered up and connected to the cloud ready for you to connect the app. I'm not sure how much power is used. My guess is 5-10W. To avoid this, you need to press and hold the power button to fully turn the unit off (it shows 'OFF' on the display).

It’ll stay silent up to about 80W on DC or maybe if it’s in a really cool ambient temperature but once the fans kick in, it’s pretty loud. Much quieter on the new version.

Is it safe to have the battery sitting on too of the Delta Max or do you put the Delta max on top of the battery?

I’ve found it to be fine (Delta Max at the bottom). No ventilation is blocked and the battery runs cool. I’ve seen no change in temperature in either unit doing it this way. Good question though. 👍🏻

My Jackery 1000 Pro is very quiet. The Eco Flo seems impressive except everyone who reviews it talks about how loud it is.

the other retro gaming guy has mod his one with a nuctua fan .i orderd one too . the sound of the fan is terrible in my river 2 . A noctua is a bit overkill bit i think a different fan can help . And its a great nice made product ,the boards inside all great . Who let that fan slip by QC. nice vid greetings

Maybe on cloudy day just swap solar plug to a smaller unit that can handle take advantage of it. Then plug that into big unit as charging source maybe in case it gets sunny. Not perfect solution. I guess depends if you know weather forecast and want to gamble. Thinking about it more, it's such a small amount. I'd rather gamble it will get sunny. However, maybe there's a splitter that can let small unit draw power with big unit drawing or not. And then it would fill up quick and shut off if it got sunny and big unit would collect large amount. Still a hassle but if you really want a tiny bit of power for a backup phone charge or two seems possible.

Agree customer service gave scripted answers. I wanted to know if I could run it as a UPS - plugged in 24/7 with item plugged into it . Only using unit power when grid goes go down. Kept telling me that UPS was same as EPS. Finally told me yes, could use as UPS!

The Ecoflow documentation claims a 30ms switchover. This is extremely quick but not below 10ms which is what I believe they need to call their device a UPS. I'm surprised they gave you that answer. Either way, 30ms will probably be fine for most stuff. I've tested it with computer gear (which is what I would want) and it worked fine.

Yes, if you can put it somewhere where you won't hear it. If the noise will bother you, the Delta Max 2 is definitely for you.

Are you warning people about the problems with the unit not being used for a period of time. I bought a ecoflow delta Max to use in my home for emergency use in the event of a loss of power from the Electric Co. But... the manual says not to leave it fully charged! It recommends to discharge the battery to 60%! What good is that?? Mine recently discharged on it own down to 1%, even though I had used it some in the last month, and fully charged it before turning it off. Manual also warns this could "cause irreversible damage". I could not recommend this product to people who are prepping for an outage!

Batteries should be stored at roughly 50% charge. That’s just a battery thing which is applicable to all batteries of this chemistry. They don’t have to be but it’s good advice to get good life. If we’re being picky, there are also certain ideal temperatures for storage too but that just gets awkward. As far as drain when off goes, I haven’t noticed this at all when the device is properly turned off (hold the power button) but when in standby, they lose about 1-2% per day. That’s quite normal.

what about adding new extra battery after 1-2 years of usage? theese batteries will not be in the same condition (health) and we are connecting them as parallel? (actualy the connection will do it for us since we are not expecting high voltage. looking for same voltage more capacity so it has to be parallel ) one with the old one will drain the healthier one to equalize voltage ??? I m asking this not to criticize anything just want to learn ... because in off grid solar system its not a good idea to add new batteries to the system since new batteries will be worn out faster... cuz circuit will drain it.

Orly lead acid batteries will do that. but with lipo 4 you will just need to replace the old ones when they no longer hold a charge the ecoflow will notify you when they need to be replaced.@@numan8775 😁😁

And suddenly many youtube influencers publish reviews about this device again, cause it isnt that great as they said first. Why, cause reviewers are just marketing outlets.There are allways those waves, suddelny all reviewers just want to talk about a produkt that they happen to get and you wouldnt notice that if it wherent multiple reviewers doing the same thing. And they do more or less just go over their talking points they have to speak about, but they all say they arent influenced about it. And suddenly, all correct their reviews cause cause they all noticed, that some of those things where not true

Wouldn’t this be a potential hazard if the liquid cooling failed? I appreciate that they don’t use water 💦 but I wouldn’t have thought it would be great getting any liquid on a huge rack of 18650 or similar cells.

This Delta Max charges up safely and rapidly from 0-80% in just 65 minutes. It does charge faster than my phone.

I will never buy anything again from ecoflow. During black friday I made the mistake of trusting what I read on their website. The ad read "ecoflow deltamax 2000 + 220w solar panel, black friday 2022 $2199." I clicked on buy and purchased it. A few days later I received the unit without a solar panel. I immediately called their 1800 number and informed them I had not received the solar panel. The man on the phone told me I had not ordered the solar panel. Wait...what? The ad said " deltamax 2000 +220w solar panel black friday 2022, $2199." Be very very careful buying anything from this company.

Advertising the deltamax 2000 + 220w solar panel in the title along with the two items pictured together for $2199 to me and 20 of my colleagues that is what you're buying. They could be good units but I'll never know because I feel as though I'm being deceived by not receiving the solar panel and asking me to pay another $1000 for it. I bought from the ecoflow Canada website and not a third party site. I'm disappointed

Bypass functionality from solar input are disabled after firmware update (to 1.6.2.45) of the EcoFlow Delta MAX. Now battery are constantly charging to 100% and discharging to 97% (even if your solar panels are producing more power then you need). This is downgrade because solar inverter and cooling system is deigned really bad and when you use it daily it dies really fast. Ecoflow called this “optimized charging policy”, thank you EcoFlow for such a nice upgrade!!! XD. I have hope that this is a joke, because they are selling product and then after few months take you big part of functionality

Yeah I bought a Toyota hybrid that got 4 minutes on battery and 4 on engine. I took it to a dealer and got an oil change. They put it on the Toyota computer and it took 2 minutes away from on main battery time. They all do this to keep from having to put a new drive battery in a car say a few years before warranty goes our. They are all thieves!

well the comments your saying about Ecoflows customer service is very saddening for me, luckily - i had a very different experience, BOM - 12v fridge / 90w macbook pro / a list of usb devices even a network supporting internet connectivity and even a AC hoover on clean up days when the hiccup happen it wasn't taking any charge via solar / 12v / 240v and would run in low power mode (1% all the time) my experience - river pro max user powering a self made RV / van set up running 247 for 4 months with one hiccup, Because its my main source power in my living situation i contacted Ecoflow ASAP within one phone to point of purchase i had a great amount of support, while on the phone i was advised to reset the unit and while waiting for the process / power cycle to complete, Shade @ecoflow AKL gave me free postage via email + out of hours contacts (just incase i had troubles) with the add bonus of unit replacement from any NZ store / retailer - if any fault was found on my unit, luckily for me after the power cycle the unit was all it needed and was good to go, the unit worked for another month 247 no faults, now i know its a different model and is a different power level but the noise issue only if you running anything other then AC240v, when running its pretty unnoticeable {Ambient noise levels wise} i was bowled over with the response from Ecoflow and Shade @Ecoflow AKL was a legend and clearly went beyond the call of duty, Personally i think your issue was more the country, of purchase cos lets fact it UK customer service is piss poor as best (and its getting worse because of external factors) please don't see this as a attack on your findings, i can never deny your lived experience but as a fellow tech nerd i wanted to share my story and hopefully to give hope / faith for anyone looking at purchasing one of these great devices, for context I'm Electronic engineer by trade with 20+ yrs of VC / VOIP / AV IT install / maintenance experience and these guys hands down beat customer service that iv personally had to a string of international brands (Cisco / Crestron / Etc etc) thanks for coming to my ted talk 🤙 chur

Thanks for sharing your experience. As you say, this is just my experience and I hope that EcoFlow continue to grow with their products and also with the all essential customer experience. The products are top quality and, although I only have a year of experience with these type of devices, they are top of the pile and my first choice with anything related to off-grid power.
