This is even more relevant today than it was in 2013!!! I really appreciated Dr. Vince Clark's approach to the importance of the advancement of neuroscience in the treatment of so many health issues! Thinking outside of the box in VITAL right now. I enjoyed this lecture. I hope he's still around and giving more speeches about newer innovations since this lecture!

I have been using a TCDC device of my own making for about six years. It certainly has boosted my cognitive abilities. I use a basic small volume control to address controlling the intensity. As a side note, I would add that it seems to actually help with manifesting things. In other words, they say that your thoughts have power. In my case, I give more power to my thoughts. Whether it's related to the documented effect that thoughts seem to have at the Quantum level of reality or not, my attainment of things that I want to bring into my life seems to be related to the use of TCDS. Consider that possibility. Prayer, meditation, etc. all brought up to another level with the addition of more power...So, be careful what you wish for. If your thoughts have power, give more power to your thoughts...

I think a better question would be to ask why we spend 3 times more money on welfare than we do even the military. Welfare has no positive effect on society. I mean at least with the military, we got the internet, but with welfare, nothing good is coming about. There will never be any new welfare based research projects lmao

Is there a way to reach Dr. Clark? I teach middle school and many students suffer from ADHD. I'd like to know if the mouthpieces work for this and if there is a set thickness or if each child has to go through an fMRI to determine what is the correct thickness. Thanks

Eike Muller I used the electrodes that came in my Interferential/ TENS unit It is a set of clips on my earlobes and is set for a 14 minute set time . I use the Interferential as needed. I learned the brain has a pain loop that has to be broken so the nerve irritation and pain subside . The biting down effect spoken of here works on the neuro motor path ways

I have used the brain driver v 2.1 & its not a replacement for Cymbalta, but it really really really makes a difference. I use it for 60 minutes at a time. I don't use it everyday, but when I go more than 4 or 5 days I can literally feel the depression coming back. It helps with my mood, motivation, and I physically feel better.

Disappointing how often even distinguished neuroscientists don't know / forget the basics. OK, he's not a physicist, but if he puts up slides in his talk with units of V/m then he really should know that V/m is a measure of the amount of force you'd expect on a charged particle. We've got far too used to looking at colored blobs on brain images and saying "oooh, look, there is a red bit here, surely that's important and deep and meaningful" rather than questioning what the data really tell us in terms of physiological measurements.
@vinceclark1598
@vinceclark1598 10 жыл бұрын
As have I explained to Jan by email, the question related to the changes in V/m across space shown in the model, not the V/m itself. So, my answer was about the change in V/m across space, which is actually a gradient in V/m, if I understand what gradients are.

By now certain gestures are removed if done by those who are not in confidence, and many times even if we know each other well, even in the family, but ... A simple hug, a caress, a squeeze, a pat, can communicate a lot.

The biting on tongue depressors- very interesting-- is this possibly impacting on the trigeminal ganglion?
@fmn2628
@fmn2628 6 жыл бұрын
AndyJK45 not sure if the trigeminal ganglion is related (first order neuron) , but more likely the second order neurons “mesencephalic kinesthetic nucleus” which relays the pressure of the trigeminal path (seccond order neuron) rigt next to the periaqueductal grey matter which is for pain modulation and responds to endorphins and opiates in the cerebral aqueduct.

scott22v Hi Scott. I'm not entirely sure what your question is, but I suspect the material is learned pretty much as it would be without tDCS, but with tDCS participants have greater attention to the task, and more plasticity in their brains to help retain the memories.

I have one of these devices (not DIY, but a TENS machine) and by placing it over the approximate area of my left prefrontal cortex I haven't noticed any of the effects (enhanced focus, etc.) that other people have reports. I am interested in the use of this device for my OCD and ADHD, which make it hard for me to focus on one task and also very difficult to meditate. I messed up my head due to a prescription drug addiction and am worried I'll be working entry level jobs for the rest of my life, blech.

using the positive electrode, find the exact back middle part of your head, then move it about 2 inches to the left, and down half an inch, put the negative anywhere on the right front side of your head, either an inch up and to the right of your right eye, or further to the right near/above the ear, do that a few times in that exact spot, then let me know how you feel, we found this exact area with the positive electrode to be the best for work, anything related to maths, sentence structure, generating words or recalling them, and being able to relay your thoughts verbally to other people in a much easier manner.

sexualpredator13 What is this location on the 10/20 model? Also, I don't really care about cognitive enhancement, except maybe math, that has not affected my quality of life. It is the inability to focus and my thoughts jumping around that is the problem, as it is for most people. Anyway, I tried the positive electrode on my right temple as shown in the Sally Adee article and all it did was make me feel out of sorts.
@sexualpredator13

valinor100 yes don't target the right side of your head with the positive, we too only noticed you feel odd, you can become more erratic with your thinking and behaviour, or if you target the rear right side, everything tasted nasty, you should read more super long replies on the other comment above, the best areas to target are T3 & T5, these seems to be the absolute best areas for any learning or problems solving, including language & mathematics.

@vinceclark1598
@vinceclark1598 10 жыл бұрын
Good point. I should have said "modern" medicine or something similar. Although, the underlying meaning of allopathic is "other than the disease", that is, treating the symptoms but not the pathology itself. We need to be thinking more about how to correct the underlying illness, rather than the symptoms or manifestations of the illness.

If anyone is interested, I have found the holy grail of TDCS use, targeting a specific part of the brain with the positive electrode, also found the exact part that if targeted, just makes everything taste bitter & metallic, including your own saliva... Now the person I have been testing it on is the number one business sales person for all of Australia at this particular firm, he drops by on lunch or before meetings to get a quick boost, I can't convince him to target any other part of his brain, he loves being turned into a cold calculating machine that seems to manifest words and sentencing structures from god knows where, and can find solutions to problems without really trying, TDCS is fantastic, I have also located the parts in which have made me hate cigarettes, which helps get off them far better than all those drugs out there with massive side effects.

I can feel my brain getting re-wired, I'll let you know in about 30 mins of all details

I don't know why they use such a weird experiment instead of just having participants memorize words or preform some physically articulate and precise task.
@vinceclark1598
@vinceclark1598 10 жыл бұрын
Its because just memorizing words or "preforming some physically articulate and precise task" doesn't work nearly as well as using tDCS. The whole point is that using tDCS (safely and correctly, and based on neuroimaging data using fMRI) works better for learning something new than not using tDCS, or not using tDCS in this way.
@josephzicaro9913
@josephzicaro9913 10 жыл бұрын
If it doesn't work well outside of this experiment, then what's the point? I believe in it, I'm just criticizing their specific experiment. It seems odd to me.
