Hands down, one of the most innovate mixers of all time and definitely the greatest mixer of this generation.

hell yeah man, it trips me out that this dude had NO experience with mixing real instruments and yet HE MADE THE MOST WELL MIXED ALBUM of the year, vocal and instrument wise. GENIUS!

To Pimp a Butterfly is the best album to come out in like over a decade (IMO, and of course only opinion). Every time I listen to that album I feel like I'm better off for having listened to it.

Dude, Ali is the man behind so many hits. He mixed to Pimp a butterfly from my understanding, which is arguably one of the best albums to come out in the last 20 years... This dude is a legend and the fact that his advice essentially boils down to 'work hard' truly shows anyone can do this... Just gotta put in the work. Thanks for the super inspiring video guys

@Pensado's Place the irony of me watching this video right now is uncanny! Here I am sitting on the east coast one week after you guys had a meet in California, when 7 days ago I was right there! I could kick myself for not seeing this video sooner. It would've been an amazing opportunity. I hope everything went great on last Saturday.

Wasn't expecting my question to make it lol! How many of you guys do processing in mono? If so, how much and why? Over this last year I've noticed that I am hitting that mono button more frequently and am also enjoying the results.
@kame52718 жыл бұрын
I Reference in mono when I want to check if phasing is happening on let's say stereo BG's, Cymbals, synths etc. A good habit to get into is to start your mix in mono and mix your main elements first, that way if it's played on a mono PA system or any system which is a bit dodgy you won't loose elements, that's just my take on it though. Another method is to turn your mono mode on and mix your kick n snares with just one speaker, I learnt that from Ali and it's a great method if you don't have fancy Avatones.
@user115398 жыл бұрын
Fancy Avantones are a great investment !

So guys, When you mix in mono. How do you do Stereo Widening? DO you wait until the end and then go back and do panning and stereo widening? Please walk me through the process, I'm struggling.

Thought another episode was playing but it's still the Ali one....but then there's an interview with the co founder of Landr! Derek's interview was less than 30 mins long! The co founder of Landr should have his name mentioned in the description, he's a fan of the show you know he will look! Plus, he seems interesting enough to be worth having his own episode, his company is significant also! Really wish the interviews were longer!

super rad interview with MixedByAli aaaaand then anyone else kinda sketched out by the Landr spot sandwiched in there???????????? maybe i'm just scared of the future maybe Landr is a company pouring loads of money into getting users for a service that will simultaneously improve production in some instances and damage the art in others... daaaaaa i dunno!
@Boissinova6 жыл бұрын
Yep. Landr is pretty horrible, but they gotta put food on the table. You can tell they don't truly believe in it or use it and Ali is advised to just sort of smile and nod... intuition is key. They do not use LANDR. I've heard it. Sounds crappy. Human ear cannot be replaced.

@1surfpesca_11 күн бұрын
You might have answered this long time ago, but if you didn’t, it’s basically just mixing with the left and right summed together, you can achieve that with a switch in your convertor, a plug in, or a console, there’s different ways of summing your stereo into mono
