They can't try harder, that's the whole point of a train. If you attack it backfires (it did for Yates) because you used more energy than the people in the draft and can't recover because of the high paced constant tempo. That's why noone attacks before the 1km: if other teams do it they will pay for it in the last hundred meters, if Roglic does it he loses the benefit of his train and he might pay for it. This stage, Pogacar was probably stronger but Pogacar can't attack earlier because Roglic can still sit in the draft 15 seconds behind and use less watts, and if Roglic attacks earlier he opens himself to a counter when he does not have his domestiques anymore, and he loses more time to Pogacar.
@lindagarciareyes90104 жыл бұрын
@daisychain51254 жыл бұрын

@daisychain51254 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, why did Bernal and Yates show they'd never win a TDF today? Bernal had an offday and Yates raced for the stage and hoped he could get away while others slowed down, he would never ride like that if he was contesting GC. As for Thomas, he is in excellent form and could really have helped, but have you seen Froome in Tirreno? He would barely be more useful than Amador (and that says a lot).

@@daisychain5125 Bernal has had a couple of bad days. Just think the poor guy has been put on a pedestal and far to much expected of him by Inios. And I seriously don't think he will improve in the final week. I have no doubt that Yates can win a stage or two maybe ,but to me he just lacks that something special that makes a TDF winner.
@daisychain51254 жыл бұрын
@@susanhill8332 Not really a couple a of bad days for Bernal, no. He wasn't out of contention until yesterday even if sings were starting to pile up, he did a more than decent stage last sunday for instance and was honestly at his level of 2019 the other stages, and he still manage to win that tour in 2019. I agree that too much was probably expected of him - I'd say in Colombia more than in INEOS - and that the pressure may have affected him, but you overreact to the moment. He has over 10 years of career left to toughen up and get a potentially better parcours and he has consistently shown since 2018 (and already 2017 in Androni) that he is one of the very best. 2019 came surprisingly soon for him and maybe too soon, but he has time to bounce back, his talent did not go away. It would be way too quick to say that he is past his moment and he'll never compete with Pogacar, Evenepoel and Pidcock or something like that. Others can lose their momentum too in the face of adversity and he can bounce back.

@@daisychain5125 Yes your right, maybe I did over react getting carried away in all the excitement. And as you say he has many years ahead to prove himself.
