I’ve no idea how or why I was so blessed, but after I married my lovely bride I discovered that she actually loved A&A, and we used to play a ton before our first son was born. Of course, I also learned that she loved cats too. I guess you have to accept trade offs.

Yeah, this is my personal favorite A&A version. I even bought IPC "poker" chips that someone online made for this game. They weren't cheap, but it was a nice addition to the game. I already had the paper money, but the chips are just nicer/easier. :-)

Yeah, Renegade is coming out with poker chips for their Axis & Allies games. And custom dice. Look really cool. Thanks a ton!

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Yeah... smart move. Oh yes... I bought custom dice for each nation, as well. lol At the time, it was all through third-party vendors. This was a good 15-ish years ago, at this point. Oof! lol

The game that got me into gaming... I have always loved Axis And Allies (my wife cringes with the cost). I even got to the point of actually painting the minis. They look so good on the board painted.... But I digress. Great review.

I think this is the sweetspot forworldwide Axis & Allies. Big enough and still interesting global choices. Just a bit unbalanced but easy to fix with a bid or minor setup changes. The production looks teh same from yoru vide as my old game. Meaning good!

Cody you should try Axis and Allies 1940 world its such a bigger level game than anniversary edition. It adds the six countries in the anniversary edition plus France, Australia and China. The map is so much bigger when you combine the two games. I don't know if its just me but i find that i don't have to play the Anniversary edition after playing the game that way. Give it a try if you can.

We know you like War Room better than A&A. What are the things WR does better and what are the best player counts for both games?

I like the simultaneous order system from War Room, and the combat resolution. I prefer AA with two, and War Room with the full six.

Just recently I was looking for the Anniversary Edition and was disappointed I couldn't find it. Now they've re-released it, lmao. Seems almost too good to be true, unless I'm going crazy and seeing things, which is highly possible!

Can someone confirm me that the italians have the same stats than usa in combat resolution ? That would be unrealistic. And 2 things I don't like : - Manchuria is not painted with japan color. Although it was controlled by japan since 1930's. - Italy does not have specific figurines, they are a mix of japan and generic.

Don't have it right in front of me so can't comment. Manchuria had been occupied by Japan since 1931, but for game play purposes it is still considered Japanese-occupied Chinese territory.

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer What was the significance of the faded out chinese roundel? Does it mean that in the off chance that the US conquers Manchuria, that they immediately give it back to China? Me and my friends could never agree on the reason for it, and always felt it should be treated as an "original" Japanese territory considering how small they are.

Greatest WW2 version of A&A! The 41 scenario does have to be play balanced - at least according to my grognards fellow gamers.

Why is that? I only played 41' 3 times but my recollection is that it heavily favors the Axis. Is that what you are talking about?

I've always shied-away from A&A (too much of a toy factor for us serious wargamers) ;^}) How would you rate other global WWII games that are not too complex and can be played in a reasonable time?

Are you thinking of any games in particular? What is "reasonable time"?

That's why I wouldn't want to play a full six player game of this. I think this game works best as a two player game.

Global 1940 is just so unwieldly. My game group was growing apart when it came out and I think we only ever got two complete games in and it just was a chore to play. We had more fun forcing Pacific and Europe 1999 and 2001 in a global version than we did with 1940. But to each their own, as long as everyone is interacting and having fun that is what matters in this digital age.
