For those of you who are extra broke or averse to spending money, like me: My mom's 2011 TDI had this exact issue. I drilled and tapped a hole in the back of the flapper motor assembly and made a little adjustable bracket from scrap metal, which does the same thing as described here. Less than 25 cents for parts, though admittedly more time+work than installing Dieselgeek's well-designed unit.

For starters I am not a mechanic in any way. The ACTUAL mechanics quoted me upwards of $800 to replace the intake manifold to fix the P2015 error. Thankfully I'm a serial researcher and came across the video from Humble Mechanic that told me about this fix. Long story short, the only extra thing I had to do was remove the air conduit tube (I think that's what it is?). It took about an hour, $75 (I needed to buy torx screwdriver) and now everything is working great. Couldn't be happier!

Worked like a charm. The check engine light went out after three starts. A little bit tricky clipping in the spring and refastening the unit while keeping everything aligned. The beer went down real smooth afterwards. VW wanted $950 Canadian for parts alone so I saved a bundle... Thanks Diesel Geeks...

This bracket kit does not always work. If the motor is burned out it will do nothing. You need to make sure the motor is still operating properly before installation otherwise the MIL will return. If the motor is ok, by all means do install the stop. I also suggest doing it before it becomes a problem and if the manifold is replaced do it anyway. You still need to make sure the motor is ok. How do I know this? Considering the fact that I am a TDI specialist who works on these constantly, I have not only the knowledge but the experience.
@HumbleMechanic8 жыл бұрын
+Michael H I think it's worth it either way. If your motor is dead, put it on the new one. If not you save a tone of money. I agree that this could be a good buy as preventative maintenance
@michaelh20348 жыл бұрын
It is BUT considering that many of these are going to be turned in by their owners, shouldn't the diagnosis be certain? It is only $64.00 but that's 64.00 less if you're turning it in. I just did one yesterday along with a t-belt kit. That customer needs to get through inspection this month and is uncertain if they are turning it in or not. Otherwise, I would have told them to do nothing.
@HumbleMechanic8 жыл бұрын
+Michael H that's up to them. From what i understand the car only has to run. Or it's a $65 dice roll vs paying $100+ for a proper diagnosis. It totally depends on the overall situation.
@michaelh20348 жыл бұрын
So wait a second. As a professional technician, you would rather see someone poke and hope than properly diagnose? I guess you mean a DIY situation but even then I have seen a ton of people out there who could screw up a wet dream, much less their car. Why not get a proper diagnosis and be sure? Doesn't that go back to do it once and do it right? I understand the car only has to run. I also have several customers who own these and plan on keeping them at least at this time. I stock the kit as it does work sometimes. I also insist on doing the diagnosis properly as that's the right thing to do. The diagnosis takes me minutes and I charge accordingly. We are also confident in our repair and if we do make an error, the customer doesn't pay. that goes for every repair we make.
@HumbleMechanic8 жыл бұрын
Michael H in a perfect world, no. A proper diagnosis is always better. But as you know a perfect world we do not live. If a customer comes in and insists on this bracket, and doesn't want to pay diagnosis or doesn't want any diagnosis we have to either decline the work or respect what they want. Plus we are bound by the rules of the dealership here. According to VW, the only repair for this whether it's a bad motor or over extended part, the replacement is a new manifold. I have to say I think we are very much on the same page with this. Not sure if we are arguing here or not, but I think we are 99% if not 100% in agreement.
Sir Daltonix mine in this case, was a cracked manifold, and it wasn’t posting proper air compression

@HumbleMechanic9 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. It's one that I don't worry too much about. this is how I see it. I am doing more good for the brand and for the industry than bad for the dealer. Most of the people that watch the show would never be customers at the dealer anyway. Unless you are local or a short drive, you're not coming here. If they were smart(big if) they would want to jump on board with me. But I don't see that happening. I do think there will be a day that the dealer group I work for becomes fully aware of what I am doing. At that point they will make a choice on leaving me alone or firing me. I think the social negative to firing me would be pretty huge. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. And hey, not working 50+ hours a week gives me a ton more time to make shows and do fun stuff for you guys. :)

The motor is not the problem..the problem are bushings of the flaps itself in the manifold..the flaps on lower rod conection is that gives the limit of the motor..this bracket is not fix..its for fool the computer.of the car becouse motor stops where it should..but the flaps are worn.. The motor is good when it doing the control on ignition turn..if motor fail it wont do anything.. Motors do not have limit..they read limit of flaps..and if flaps are 2% out of range..the motor will send that to cars computer and stays in open (as its fail position)
