Is it just me or people that paid for PMS50 are blindly saying they don't see the advantage of using this one? Watch this video and after only 5 mins, you'll notice that this has hundreds of features that the PMS50 version doesn't have. Aside from the Charts in US only and not updatable Airacs, (edit: and also weather implementation) this is the closest thing to real life you'll get. I have the PMS50 myself and will buy this one as soon as the piper update come out. It's simply amazing clicking everywhere and being able to add waypoints directly on the map and seeing the towers and constraints. It is absolutely fantastic in my opinion!

Used the original in P3D and loved it so as soon as I heard it was available for MSFS I bought a copy and just about tolerated the stand-alone application but it was so useful I stayed with it despite also having the PMS version. I downloaded this version two days ago and what a difference! It's amazing how much better cross-country flying now is! Justflight released the updated Arrows 22nd February!

Hey, so the database will essentially always be old, and we can't update it using for example Navigraph? I don't really like the PMS50 GTN because it's not really a GTN, it's sort of morphed into whatever features the dev feels like adding (and it's $75, which is outrageous). But the plus for that one is you can update the nav database. Not so here?
@TheClumsyGeekGaming

Yes, that's one of the limitations. To be fair, I've been flying with this for a few weeks straight and still haven't seen an inconsistent approach because of the older nav database.

I just wrote this all out on a different video, but wanted to come back to this one and just make others aware. There are many that want things that will not happen, unless Garmin change their trainer. Back when the RXP 750 first came out I bought it and was almost immediately on the phone with Garmin trying to find out how I could mod the trainer. Long story short, you cannot. I was able to get some files from a friend, that got them from another friend of someone that bought the data and was able to update my files, but that's all. Unless Garmin added weather support, it will never have any. The only that could be done is some sort of overlay so the user was clicking an invisible button that then would have to somehow overlay the weather (not possible in my opinion) The Garmin trainer is at the heart here, and the brains. Not at all trying to cut down TDS, and believe me, as much as I LOVED my RXP 750, these truths made him mad as well but it's undeniable. My major particular buying decision between this and the PMS50 is to be fully compatible with the Realsimgear 750. Having just checked their last notes, both of these will work so now I must pick more. PMS building there's from scratch, outside of Garmin completely will have the better end result from what I see, since they will be able to implement weather, or any other feature since they're not just putting drapes on someone else's window. The window being the Garmin trainer. Even adding Airacs in the future aren't possible without Garmin or someone at Navigraph learning Garmin's files (TDB & odb) and then rewriting them every cycle which is beyond monumental a thought, haha. TDS's looks better, because it's Gamin's trainer running. No possible way for airac updates without some form of overlay EFB. So all that said, I will support both, since I already have the lifetime PMS50. For now this will most likely work better with my very expensive Realsimgear GTN 750. My only point is that PMS50, though currently less able, is on the right track in building from scratch since no other developer today or tomorrow will be able to add features to Garmin's trainer. Only box around it and make it work with MSFS as well as push aircraft devs in making the needed panel.

Hey Clumsy, I had got frustrated with my pc it didn't have enough memory to run msfs 2020 and my computer was running slow and running out of room. So I bought a 1 tb memory card carried it to the shop and they installed some more memory. Now that I have enough memory to run it decently. I am back flying again. I have sure missed it. This sure looks good. Just a little too high priced for my budget right now. It still seems that things are just out of my reach even after all of this time being away. Maybe one day I can get these things. Enjoyed the vid thanks for sharing it.

In full disclosure, I'm not a pilot nor a GPS expert. Having said that, I still need some basic questions answered. I saw your video and thought it would be a good addition as a FS utility to augment my learning about FPs and the navigation by embracing this TDS tool. I know AP can be set for either/both ALT and HDG. But, I also thought, one of the most useful features of an AP using a sophisticated GPS was so that the plane would steer itself at the pre-programmed WPs. This aspect of using MSFS with various planes I have not conquered yet. Hopefully, the TDS package will make it easier once I have a solid understanding of the planes capability. I thought I heard you say in the video(19:35), that with this particular plane or nav system the WP headings would have to be changed manually? However, I was keeping my eye on the plane on the display waiting to see what it did at the first WP. While I didn't see the plane turn, it did appear to have done what I expected and changed heading to the 2nd WP. Did it do so automatically, or did you change it manually, like you said you would need to do earlier in the video because the plane didn't support it? I'm confused. Isn't that the BIGGEST advantage of auto navigation? I like to create my FPs in LNM and upload them to the sim. But then what comes next so that everything will function properly? What actions does the pilot NEED to take so that the navigation is automated. Assume we're in level flight and we simply want the AP/GPS to steer along our rep-planed and loaded FP automatically? I have had very limited success in getting this aspect of navigation to work correctly and predictably in MSFS. I've gotten it a couple times, but for the life of me can't figure out if the process is correct. Good video BTW. Another tool that hopefully will help me understand this stuff better. :)
@TheClumsyGeekGaming
@TheClumsyGeekGaming 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, with autopilot and a flight plan, the plane will follow and turn by itself if in NAV mode. Different planes have different names for it. NAV/GPS/FMS are some of the common ones. About the track needing to be set manually, that's just for visual purposes. The plane will turn by itself during autopilot, but the track shown on the HSI will not automatically change to where the plane is turning towards. So it won't be confusing for the pilot, they need to align the track on the HSI with the track the GPS is currently following. (there is an option in the tds btw to make this HSI adjustment automatic, but it's just not realistic for some older planes). Enjoy!
@redjr16
@redjr16 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheClumsyGeekGaming Well it did appear in your example, that the background map on the display rotated automatically to the next WP's heading, and thereby orienting the plane, showing it following the FP path. I'll have to do more experimenting. Right now I'm trying to get the TDS displays to show up in the cockpit. :) Thanks for your help.

PMS50 does have the flight planning and terrain and the weather radar will come in time when Asobo pull their fingers out. You can already get the Metars. The lack of navigraph integration for TSS, or at the very least, updatable Airacs, is a deal killer IMO. Plus, I’ve already made 1/2 of the lifetime payment for PMS50 and it’s well worth it’s cost as more and more GA aircraft that use it are being added. Yes, this video was useful to confirm to me that what I have is best, for me, for now.

At 12:20, I believe you're misreading the altimeter - the large hands major delineations is hundreds, the minor delineations 20 feet. Biggest question is affect on FPS performance. Remember, both RealityXP and Flight1 GTNs and GNS, in FSX/P3D, used the Garmin Trainer. The main advantage was that the work is done outside the sim... meaning that it uses spare cpu threads ... many, therefore, as MSFS still only uses 4 or 5 threads ! So the graphics and refresh rate should be faster.
@TheClumsyGeekGaming
@TheClumsyGeekGaming 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, good points! I didn't encounter any noticeable fps drops. As you mentioned, the cpu load this package consumes should not take away from the main thread msfs is using, as it's a separate application and therefore can use completely separate threads.

@@whammo11224 it should work seamlessly. When you open msfs, during the loading screen the gtnxi external software automatically opens in the background. If you're getting black screens or other issues, I suggest joining the TDS discord to get help from them directly. They reply very fast most of the time. Good luck and congrats on your purchase!

Not a very natural way to go, when already using Navigraph...

For charts, yes, but for everything else, it's amazing.

NO AIRAC update is already a reason to not follow on this product unfortunately.. Garmin database barely are updated, so the probability of buying this product and remain with a out of date product / database is huge..

I'm not sure it's that intense. A few months old navdata should still be perfectly usable around 95% of the time.

This database depends from Garmin. Take a look the last airac update from Garmin home page. There isn't. In a year, several procedures, airways, fixes and the like already be out of date. Remembering Garmin last airac is from 202104, so already a year late.
