Thank you so much for this vid. Pierre is one of my most beloved literary characters. In all the versions of War and Peace, no one ever did him justice until Paul Dano. He is superb as Pierre. Thank you vid is fantastic.

+Roon Wit Thank you! I agree, Paul Dano was perfect. I might end up making yet another video as an excuse to rewatch all of his scenes.

+Roon Wit I love Paul Dano, but it was Anthony Hopkins as Pierre who stole my heart in the 1970's. Henry Fonda is wonderful, too. :-)
@roonwit55448 жыл бұрын
I found Henry Fonda a bit hard to see as Pierre, just too conventionally handsome to me. I quite liked Alexander Beyer in the 2007 version, though much of the rest of that cast was meh.

There is something about Paul Dano's voice, it's simply irresistible. I would like men to understand that women do not always seek for a handsome, brutal guy.

AMellon Keller He was described in the book as ugly I believe. I’m not sure as the book is huge and I can’t remember exactly, “Tall, fat, with large hands,” or something like that
@tammymilda21694 жыл бұрын
@@yourlocalanklebiter Directors don't have to be slaves to authors. Even if you think this was a lenient interpretation (I don't - I never got the impression he was that ugly), it works perfectly with the narrative.

Elsa Fever a bit unattractive but big and powerful. The actor they chose was good except I wish he had been a little larger framed. That would have been more true to Tolstoy. But the actor was still well chosen and there were two scenes when he manifested pretty impressive strength.
