Just for reasons of historical accuracy, the iconic hump on the top of the mission was not there during the battle. It was an addition constructed by the U.S. Army, after Texas was granted statehood, so that a sloped roof could be put on rather than the more traditional southwestern flat roof. Just FYI!

So fun family fact from the ol Stogy, I have a distant cousin that's name is on that monument because he was a volunteer. Asa Walker. There is even a street by the Alamo that is named after him, Walker Street. Lot of family history in Texas and I could not be more proud.

This is what happened at the Alamo: Mexican federal army comes to San Antonio to disarmed armed illegals from the States. After the battle and rout, there laid 253 American insurgents and 60 dead Mexican soldiers who all died in a 30 minute battle. Davy Crockett surrendered to the Mexican soldiery, only to be executed moments later; Travis committed suicide at the north wall when he saw all was lost, and Bowie was hiding under his cot, and was slain in that manner. At least 100 Alamo defenders were killed OUTSIDE of the Alamo compound, as they tried to escape the battle - they were chased by down by Mexican cavalry and killed. A Mexican victory for all time! It's nice to see Texans of all stripes celebrate a Mexican victory every year!

Prety good. Prety good. You should go back when they remember the battle. There are reenactors wearing battle related clothes.Then, trek to Goliad and then to San Jacinto, Texas were the Battle of San Jacinto happened. They also reenact the battle. The complete battle scream was, "Remember Goliad and remember the Alamo".

I am an indirect (collateral) descendant of Davy Crockett. My family is directly descended from Davy's brother Nathan. My father had a family bible that had Davy's handwriting in it (fragments really are readable but faded. My brother has it now. I'm suing him for it (just kidding. Family joke). My dad was a big time history buff, as am I. So I grew up just being fascinated by the story, Davy himself, the bravery and the action. I've been there several times. It's funny but I always meet people that our genuinely related to me, but I've never met. Loved your vid.

All I know about the Alamo is what I've seen in movies. I assume that the truth is different.
@michaelinhouston9086
@michaelinhouston9086 4 жыл бұрын
Not that much in the movies is true - funny thing is that the actual events of the entire Alamo battle are more interesting to me. A lot of what is in the Alamo movies is fictionalized but does give a version of reality so whether something is "true" becomes not that critical if you are looking for a broad vision of the story. Some of the same arguments are made about the movie "The Longest Day" - okay, so some of the stuff is not exactly true but it does give a broad impression of what occurred.

My mother and she used to be childhood playmates before she moved out to California. Unfortunately, they didn't keep in touch. My mother tells me that my Grandma sort o hated her. And use to call her "Tonta" which is Spanish for Crazy ( Mom is 100% Mexican) And for Tuppence. They were old British coins back during the victorian era of 1910. Keep up the work on thee Vlogs. Debbie Parker Respect! Kids and adults running around filming literally everything (concerts etc) instead of actually taking in the moment at the time is disrespectful as it shows you're not giving it your whole self. Also inside locations like the Alamo it's distracting to other visitors that may consider it a somber place of reverence. Of course this is just the opinion of some and everything in life is open to interpretation because we all create our own realities!!

Adam, if you want some REALLY amazing BBQ, you're not far away from The Salt Lick outside of Austin. Head there, you won't be disappointed. Also, I would like to recommend you spend some time in central Texas. Go find the old ghost town of Belle Plain, TX in Callahan County. It's about a half hour outside of Abilene. And if you're in the Abilene area, go check out Ft. Phantom Hill...lots of really old ruins and history. And IF you find your way to Abilene, go grab some Carne Guisada's from La Popular Bakery...it's ICONIC!!!! Enjoy Texas and keep up the good work!!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Plain,_Texas

I don't know if that is the oldest continually operated bar in the United States. Google says it's the White Horse Bar in Rhode Island, but I think that is by name only. I know for a fact that Tujague's in NOLA was founded a few years before the Menger and had a walk up bar, but even older than that is Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop which is the oldest building housing continually operating bar established 1772.

People forget that Texas used to part of Mexico and those fighting in the Alamo were soldiers who wanted the land in 1835. After the U.S were defeated, Mexico continued their war to keep their land but were defeated a year later near present day Houston by General Houston. Between 1690 and 1821, the land belonged to Spain and after Mexico gained their independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico owned the land that is now Texas, Utah, Arizona, California and the west portion of Colorado. Mexico allowed people to immigrate from the United States into Texas and by 1834 there were more than 30,000 Americans living in Mexican Texas. A year later the war started and the Americans living in Mexican Texas declared they were an independent Nation.

Keep up the good work and give me a call when you come to San Diego and maybe I can assist you on some other related Tours of Old Town which is haunted and one of the oldest settlement in California. There seems to be a special "theme" in those 185 brave mean against 5,000 to 7,000 Mexican troops which are unbeatable odds, yet those early Americans fought anyway. I can relate as I am fighting the corrupt Government and I am only one person.....think about those odds...Right? It makes a Big difference when you are right no matter what. Too bad you didn;t take a fiber optic camera inside ....? I think there are many more "Artifacts" that have never been recovered, or that were stolen and just never returned. Still under contention is the Jim Bowie Knife, referred to as the Moore Bowie recovered by a Mexican soldier. What a story. Maybe you can get together with John Fitzen of Fitzen's knives in Utah? He's a really cool guy.

Phil Collins has been avid collector of anything Alamo for years,he's now donated his collection of about 200 artefacts from the Alamo to the state of Texas so they can be displayed at the Alamo.

Security... Don't you mean Barney Fife? Remember the Alamo! A shame that filming isn't allowed inside the Alamo. Also I wonder what the death flag looked like? Black flag perhaps? Awesome vlog Adam!

The gentleman at the door is a tour/info guide (where to park ur car, where to go eat, wat time does the Alamo close, ect.). The security wear Cowboy hats. And the Alamo is scared ground in the highest degree, on a scale of 1-10, the Alamo is like a 40. You remove your hats when you enter. Hope this helps.

B Caldwell actually the person seen when the "security" disclaimer was mentioned was a tour guide. The Ranger guards are well dressed armed fit personnel above " barney fife".

Good job from a San Antonio resident for 40 yrs. The plan by the state is to move the Cenotaph and re imagine the Alamo to the tune of 42 million dollars. We really don't need to re imagine the Alamo.

There are two different version of Davy Crockett dying, one is fighting, the other is that he surrendered and was executed. But it doesn't matter which version you believe, can you imagine a US congressman today giving up their seat and going to physically fighting in a war?

It has been said that guests of the Menger Hotel have heard maniacal laughter coming from the walls of the Alamo and looking out of their windows have seen a spectral figure clad in a green bottle coat sitting on the wall that is reputed to be the devil himself.

You know I've been reading, "Rich Dad Poor Dad" just to see some advice, and there is a great example of failure is with Texas. Even when Texan's fail they fail big, but don't worry they remember it! That was interesting to me.

Still one of my favorites and I HAVE been to THE ALAMO in 1966 before transferring to Japan.(Military family) I also visited Fort Sam Houston a 1/4 mile away or so. That Mission is Sacred and should be to ALL Americans. I wonder why they don't have a Virtual camera facing the entrance? Wouldn't THAT be cool? Kind of like Lourdes France where Bernadette Soubirous found the niche and saw the vision of the Lady(Virgin Mary) and dug up the sacred water well at that location. I am former law enforcement and I have had some Paranormal experiences and I'd be willing to watch that location at night time for hours...The Spanish Missions were all over the southwest and about the same size and shape. I've also worked at the White House and wonder why WE the People can;t have a virtual 24 hour camera, but I guess that's a security issue...right? Some people even get Alamo Tattoos on their arms...Can you believe that ??? Adam ? Have you seen that?

That was a nice tour. Some discrepancies but overall nice. The remains at the San Fernando cathedral are actually not proven to be that of the Bowie, Travis and Crockets. There is evidence to dispute that claim. Evidence dating back to 1836, 1837. Not to mention hair and clothing fragments that would not be there having had been burned in a huge pyre.

Plus the remains were left undisturbed for over a year. They gathered up some & claimed they were those of Travis, Bowie, & Crockett.
