Back at school at Hato Hohepa, us doing a number from the West Coast that we had been practicing when Auckland Uni visited, then they asked us to sing it for them and someone (sneaky) caught it on camera lol

Beautiful version Hato Hohepa, beautiful singing. This waiata was composed by Te Rangi Hemi (Ratana Pa) and was performed by Te Reanga Morehu O Ratana at the Aotea Regionals 2001-02? Then performed by Tu Te Mataora ki Rangitane several years later. Very lovely to hear other roopu using this beautiful waiata that our mother wrote about her first born mokopuna. Mauri Ora.

May Kaa - it was written (for) and performed by La Bouche. Perhaps the Māori lyrics were written by said person.

Ae tika koe, the original tune is composed by La Bouches, we were inspired by this composition music.

Far out my Mum use to always thrash the Pakeha version of this waiata - La Bouche - Do You Still Need Me. I'm soo glad theres a Maori version, cause it's such a beautiful song in either language :) Luv the voices too :)

In a day when so many things are disturbing, and culture is being forgotten or rejected, its comforting and inspiring to listen to your music. What I wonder is how is life for the school's graduates? Anyway, keep shining your light. I'll keep trying to shine too.

Wow, I'm so glad this type of Maori singing is still around. Groups tend to borrow African American gospel style singing these days which isn't a problem, but to hear Maori singing like this brings joy to the ears.
