Voyage of a lifetime ⛵️Te Marumaru Atua sets Sails to Hawaii, Festival of the Pacific Arts
It was a very special day today with our family, friends, and 'Ātui’anga ki te Tango students farewelling vaka Marumaru Atua, sailing to Hawai'i for the Festival of the Pacific Arts in June.
It was also an emotional day and one of cultural significance. AKTT students carried the mana of their tupuna and the voyager who sailed before them, chanting Ivitū... a pe'e composed by Papa Tepoave Araitia for the vaka.
It's been a learning curve to reignite and transfer traditional knowledge to our youth with the erosion of culture and language, so our NGO Kōrero o te 'Ōrau works hard from the bottom up...chipping at it to educate young minds as well as working with family units to bring about cultural awareness.
