Nice bit of kit and you gave it a good review. Te Pari will be happy with that review

Crawford the Te Pari kit seems to be very well built and with great features. From back in the day when I was still farming, making the investment in a well built and streamlined crush is well worth the money from speed of handling to more importantly safety. The amount of near misses I had over the years from poor handling systems I would say go for the best you can afford and it will pay you back many fold!

I have that classic squeeze about 10 years now, bought it from mackies stand at the Ayre show over the phone as they were packing up. Got it delivered on the Monday in ireland. Best bit of kit I ever bought, some changes on new one I don’t like. Neck access still not great, just don’t catch them if your injecting in the neck area. Best thing is the handle for the head gate at the rear where you can operate the sliding gate with one hand and the head gate with the other. Just don’t let cattle pass the crush on the side that has the handles on, they’ll bend them til it will get weak and crack

Thanks for calling into the branch, Crawford. Regarding the thickness of the steel, the box section is 3mm thick plus the hot dip galvanizing layer on that. It’s all Australian-made steel too which is very high quality. Any other questions, feel free to sing out. Best regards, Corban Blampied

Cammy sure loves "his" Te Pari. Believe he now does adverts for them, though KZbin has not yet blessed me with one. 😉 Glad your pregnant cow is still in calf. Glad also you second scanned the empties. Are the Highlands believed/hoped to be in calf?

We have a tepari and combo-clamp crush’s. Both excellent. Over time the pins on Te Pari have had dust accumulate so not as smooth but that’s just a maintenance issue and is outdoors permanently.

I take it you are planning to have a couple of calving pens in the new cattle shed, think about putting at least one calving gate in the design, I had one designed and made by a local engineer, I was able to handle cows single handed safely for a number of treatments from calving to tb testing, well worth the money, my vets really liked it.

@@CrawfordsFarm1 mine had a head yoke at 90° to the wall with a gate mounted that swung 180° the cows were into the yoke without even realising, incorporated within the main gate were 2 smaller gates that gave access to the side of the cow if an op was needed or even to give a calf a suck

Which model to choose? It all depends on how many cattle you plan to keep and if anyone will be helping you as you work the cattle. If you are not looking to increase your herd size too much in the next several years, then I'd pick the less expensive model without as many bells and whistles. It's a solid piece that is safe for both man and beast and you can operate it by yourself, but you will have to do a little more work with it, so you won't be quite as quick. If you intend to significantly increase your number of cattle in the next few years, and you will be working the cattle alone, then get the more elaborate model.

Maybe an American saying (?) but "buy once, cry once" which means go ahead and spend the money to get the best you possibly can the first time as it will pay off in the long run. You need a system that you could work alone, if absolutely necessary, so the little extras mean a lot.

The payback on these expensive crushes will be the time savings, number of people needed etc. Seeing Cammy use the sheep one was a real eye opener. I imagine you will really benefit from auto tag readers, weighers, linked guns for medication getting rid of paperwork. If you can get in safely to clean cattle if you need to before they go. Reducing vet time. Might be wrong but I’d think it’ll be like GPS on the tractors.
