TE37 SL Tire Mounting on the Hunter Revolution

After mounting several sets of tires I am nailing down my process on mounting tires but the TE37s and the stiff sidewall of the AD08Rs need some finessing to get them to go on.

I'm dealing with that problem right now. Just received my brand new TE's and they've been sitting in my room for a month. Have no idea who to take them to that won't destroy them. Called dozens of shops and none have said anything to make me comfortable droppin off my TE's to them. I'd rather sell them than take'em to Discount Tire.

Matt, I understand your channel and your mentality with this stuf is everything the best, usually expensive and obsessed over every detail. And I don't want to sound rude but I think you got upsold like crazy. As a former tire tech I can tell you right now both those Machines are way more complicated than necessary. Hunter makes good machines but the tech in these doesn't justify the price as it doesn't save u any time. These 4 tires, on and off the car shouldn't take much more than 30 min. Including everything. Dismounting, mounting, balancing and removing and installing to the vehicle. I know you are learning and I hope you don't take this offensively. I just see this as excessive to the point where it's not obsessed its not justified, especially for the cost. Not trying to tell u what u want, and obviously it's your shop/tools, but a decent tire tech should be able to do this exact job without that fancy equipment, especially the tire mounting machine. I'm sure your community, including myself could give you tips to do this without the high price tag. Love your content and I hope you take this as informative and not disrespectful.

I don't disagree. They didn't sell me these, I asked for them. I saw them a SEMA, and had a chance to play with them. That's why I sought them out. As I encounter various wheel types, I'm slowly acquiring ideas on how to troubleshoot and fix problems. I'm enjoying the fight.

100% agree! That machine not only takes way too long, it also looks like it could easily damage the bead of the tyre. Really is just overcomplicating the whole process

I worked selling cars for 10 years plus including BMW and Porsche so I have see tires mounted at least 1000 times. Yet somehow you got me to watch all your stuff as usual. Nice work my friend. TE are a dream wheel since the late 90’s along with BBS LMs

Around the 3:30 mark when talking about road force balance, I believe the term match mounting is used as well. The road force balancer is necessary to measure both wheel and tire. I am commenting before finishing video so maybe this is talked about later on.

I've only ever seen the videos on tire mounting that you've posted, but I think you've understood road-force "balancing" incorrectly. It doesn't help that no one tries to explain it well, and that it is called "balancing" to begin with. I believe the road-force test is to find the inevitable high spot and low spot on the wheel. What should be a circle is almost always actually an "egg" shape with a high and low spot. Correspondingly there is a stiff and lax part of a tire's sidewall. Ideally you want the stiffer portion of the tire on the valley of the bead (part of the wheel bead that is closest to the center of the wheel), and the loosest part of the sidewall on the hill of the bead (part of the bead that is furthest from the center of the wheel). This ultimately creates a more perfect circle that won't wobble up-and-down as you drive down the road under load. That's why the balancing machine needs to apply force to the wheel/tire combination. It's looking for high and low spots. Go ahead and confirm this with your contacts at Hunter. I'm pretty sure they will confirm.

Did you align the yellow dot on tire with the valve? Looks like you cleaned it off before mounting.

I've found that doesn't help, so I just remove them.

@@ObsessedGarage I have a different experience. I mounted 1st gen Neova's on JDM Sti Enkei wheels, 2 wheels did not take any weights, other 2 had no more than 3 weights (1/4 oz?) each. I since had switched to Pirelli's (cheaper) but they do not come with yellow dots and my wheel barrels now look like a display case of wheel weights (relatively speaking). From what i have seen on other machines, they lube the tire and the rim.

I've found that when I lube the wheel too much, too early in the process, it causes the wheel to spin inside the tire not allowing the tire to run past the arm for mounting.

On the Twin Busch site they have some videos that explains what they do step by step and its seem a fairly smooth process. You seem to have figured it out and as long as you don’t hurt yourself and or the wheel doesn’t get damaged, you win.
