Geez!!! What great musicianship and singing. These folks are really gifted...on this old song Chloe's singing reminds me of Peggy Lee or little bit of Billie Holiday.

With all the music that the charming Chloe detains in her body and soul - and which she shares willingly with the world - one cannot expect her to be familiar with the lyrics of every song written since 1925. I hope that Judge Greg Sco has never watched a symphony orchestra playing; it would make him really sad. Thank you James.

"Tea For Two" has summarized my feeling in song of a perfect relationship with another for some time now. From Doris Day to many who have recorded the song. Chloe, who I follow, is just a plus for me here with her great clarinet capability a part of the performance. Great accompaniment from all also....

I'll be back on Frenchmen Street in September and if they are playing I'll be there! Chloe had them listed on her web site calendar recently as "Kala's Hot Cats" and earlier in the summer as "Hot Cats", so the name of the group is fluid (possibly because a sweet young lady like Chloe is uncomfortable with the name "Cats in Heat"! :>)

Being the pro that Chloe is she did a great job. However, let;s not tie her hands by having her use a smartphone to get the music. She as always elevates everyone around her. She just amazes me.

I'll be posting a very complicated Django instrumental piece later by Chloe. The first thing I thought of was, she did that without any sheet music. It was a lot more complicated than the lyrics to Tea For Two.

You know what James?Some people have a Good Memory..They`d play an arrangement Twice,and ,have it..We saw the Duke Ellington Band at the Marquee Club,and who did the Gig without Music,(with a Newspaper) Johnny Hodges..This has a downside! If the band changed the arrangement.later I could not,(well, that´s nearly Right).I could never play it another way. We had a" Jazz at the Tally Ho,"Big Band,In London,all without Music..The Piano led the Rythm Section,and each section Leader,Led his section..Always worked.My Sister sang,as well.

Ah, Johnny Hodges! When I think of how the saxophone should sound I immediately think of Johnny Hodges and Lester Young. I got to see both Duke and Count Basie before they passed away.

Yes. I have a piano playing friend who watched "African Queen" twice. The first time for the movie, the second time for the music. Then, a few days later, when he was playing piano at a restaurant/bar he had a request for the "African Queen" movie music. He played it from memory. He's written dozens of songs accompanied by piano, without writing the music down. When he released an album (cassette tape) of his songs, he had many requests for his music. He had to go back and write it down by hand, then have it printed and bound. His comment about the sheet music: "If the piano player is really good, he/she shouldn't need sheet music to play the song from the tape."

Nice performance, but if I were watching this live, especially as a paying audience member, I would not be happy with Chloe having to use an smart phone to read the lyrics. In a jam session, it is more acceptable.
@JamesSterling8 жыл бұрын
Well, you may not be able to tell but this was more of a jam session. It was an early afternoon set at the d.b.a. and I was the only person there other than the bartender when it started. Two or three people wandered in and out, but that was it. They were essentially playing for each other and for me. Notice the lack of crowd noise or applause. It made for a nice recording though. The d.b.a. had it on their calendar as "Cats in Heat". The only way I knew Chloe would be there is I checked her web page an hour before the show started. The Iphone didn't bother me.
@gsco828 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information, James. I am glad that you are able to record and post videos of Chloe, who is a phenomenally good clarinet player. I have subscribed to your channel.
@TheSpikehere7 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest, is there any difference between reading the words from an iPhone or from sheet music? The girl has to learn from somewhere. To my old ears, Chloe both sings and plays beautifully. And she has a real feel for Jazz.
@gsco827 жыл бұрын
I think that it is just a matter of appearance. It looks rather normal for a musician to read sheet music from a music stand. But reading something from a smart phone perched on your lap is a bit unusual. I agree that Chloe is a very talented musician. I'm an old clarinet player myself, and I am almost jealous of her great ability.

If she had a music stand in front of her would this conversation have taken place? Times and technology move on.

This is nice but Oscar Peterson does it for me, Tea or Two a little bit more tempo.
