1:24 - 1:29 No. Not "unless you know who you're sending it to." Never. Period. Legitimate organisations will never ask you to email account details.

Agreed, this video mentions going to the official website to reply, but in reality, you should just mark the false email as spam, and move on.

Actually, it is. It's a form of engaging presentations using sounds. Studies have shown that people are more likely to pay attention when using visual and audio queues. The same reason it's not just audio.

There's also the advanced way the hacker can use. For example phone calls. Because they can gain information from you, to brute force your password of your account too. That is quite rare. But is possible.

00:06 is good and can be useful. 00:08 But just as in the offline world, 00:10 you also need to watch out for the occasional bandit. 00:13 In the offline world, if a stranger 00:15 offered you some candy, you'd know better than to take it. 00:18 The same principle applies online. 00:21 If someone offers you a discount coupon, 00:23 asks you to take a survey to win a free smartphone, 00:27 or tells you that you won a trip to Hawaii, 00:29 you should be suspicious of the content and the intention 00:31 behind it. 00:32 Social engineering is a technical term for content 00:35 that tricks you into revealing personal information, 00:38 like your login details or credit card number. 00:42 Social engineering attacks can happen 00:44 over email, ads, or web pages. 00:47 Some attacks can be pretty easy to spot. 00:49 Remember the rich prince who wanted to transfer millions 00:52 of dollars to your account? 00:54 But others can be sophisticated and pretty convincing. 00:58 So let's talk about some steps you 01:00 can take to avoid online scams. 01:03 One of the most common ways to trick users is through email. 01:08 Social engineering emails look like they're 01:09 from a legitimate source. 01:11 But they're not. 01:13 For example, an email may claim to be from a bank 01:15 and say that your banking account has been compromised 01:18 and that you must quickly email them your password to avoid 01:20 having the money stolen. 01:23 It's important to remember never send 01:25 personal information over email unless you're absolutely 01:28 sure who you're sending it to. 01:30 The attackers will use every trick in the book 01:32 to make you believe that the address in an email 01:34 is legitimate, faking the from address 01:37 to make it look like it's from someone you know. 01:40 So don't use the reply address in the message 01:43 unless you are sure who the sender is. 01:45 And don't click on links in the email. 01:48 Instead, open a new window and type in the official website 01:51 of the bank or company in question 01:53 and find the contact address. 01:56 Social engineering can also happen 01:57 when you visit a web page. 02:00 Scammers will generate a sense of urgency 02:02 and create websites that look similar to sites 02:04 that you already use. 02:06 That's why when visiting a web page, 02:08 pay close attention to the page's URL 02:11 because attackers will often make 02:12 this URL look similar to that of a genuine site. 02:16 Before you enter any personal information on a web page, 02:19 check the URL to make sure it starts with HTTPS 02:23 and is preceded by a locked padlock icon. 02:26 02:29 Other types of scams can trick you 02:31 into downloading malware or unwanted software that 02:34 may harm your device or steal your personal information. 02:38 A website or an ad cannot detect if your machine is compromised. 02:43 If you see a message while browsing 02:44 saying that your computer is infected 02:46 and asking you to download software, 02:48 you should be suspicious. 02:50 Remember to always download software 02:52 from reputable sources. 02:53 02:56 Now you know what social engineering is, as well as 02:58 steps you can take to avoid online scams. 03:01 And remember, if something looks too good to be true, 03:04 it probably isn't.

The term phishing began to be used in 1996. It is a variant of fishing, but with ph of the English phone that means telephone. It refers to deception by means of emails to users who have bank accounts. According to statistics from the US Internet Crimes Complaint Center. U.S., the loss due to mail scams was $ 1256 million in 2004 and according to the Anti-Phishing Working Group there has been a 28% increase in the last four months in email scams.
