My daughter and I got through this in about 60 days, just before she turned four. It was a huge success. We went through the recommended book list that's at the end of this book. About two months later, she started reading 100 page chapter books. Mostly Boxcar Children and Magic Treehouse. My daughter didn't like the writing exercises at the end of each lesson so we skipped all of those.

That is reassuring because the writing part is a deterrent for my daughter. I’m going to skip it too then!

Started this with. My son when he was 3 . We skip the writing too as he's not developmentally ready . Just do 5 mins of the book each day, rather than forcing a whole lesson. Started when he was 2 years old with flash cards of the sounds

This book really works.. I have homeschooled for over 10 years now and my 2 youngest I taught to read from that exact book.. my one daughter who was almost 8 or 9 before she actually got it I thought she was never going to read I thought I was doing something wrong and once I got that book she instantly got it and loved to read and would ask me everyday if we were doing that book.. so yes I am a firm believer that this book works.. 100% would recommend this book to anyone who has a child who can’t read it is struggling like mine were.. 💜

I homeschooled 6 children. I used this book with each of them. I found another book that works great to get them ready to sit and do lessons and helps them develop the skills needed before we even start this book. It’s called Getting Ready to Read by Julie Shaffer

I just ordered the book. I’m waiting for it. I’ve had my two kids in school for kindergarten to 2nd grade. They are behind so I’m homeschooling now. We have been homeschooling for three months now and I’m determined to help my kiddos read. They basically learned abcs at school. I’d like the kids to strive for more.

Oh my goodness I wanted to laugh when you mentioned putting it down and coming back to it! I have 8 children. With child #3 I wanted to throw this book out the window so I sold it. Nothing worked with him until he just picked up reading on his own. I can't even remember what I used to teach #4 to read. With #5 even though we used Logic of English he struggled to read and write. Honestly it wasn't until using a gentle approach that he's doing incredible with spelling now. So I guess this book was in the back of my head, and I just started to use it last week as I borrowed it from the library for #6. I decided to look up reviews as I wasn't believing it even though my daughter is enjoying it. So I guess it really can work and yes I am a homeschooling mama too! Thanks for your review and a current one too!

Reading really scares my little princess at the beginning as she might make errors. I used this reading guideline 4ChildrenLearningReading.blogspot.com for two months and later discovered that she is already reading beginner novels by herself! We`re very impressed with the outcomes! The program is great for any age limit.?

Hi There! I’m a mama of three as well. A daughter who’s turning 5 next month, a 3.5 yr old wild boy, and a 1 yr old boy who keeps me on my toes. I’ve wanted to do the homeschool route since many years before I had kids. But now I’m finding myself a bit overwhelmed. It’s been hard to create a daily rhythm. My oldest will start kindergarten this fall and I’ve actually gotten through lesson 15 of this book with her today just to see if I can help her learn to read before we start the whole full blown homeschool year. Thanks for sharing your review! I’m looking forward to learning more about TGTB.

Thanks for the review. I've used All About Reading with my older children when they were little, however I'm interested in using Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons with my youngest because she's 7 in July and I want her to learn how to read at a faster pace at this point. Compared to how All About Rearning is laid out, this book makes me want to cry 😭 I'm still going to use the Zebra puppet from AAR to make it interesting 😬

Hi Christine! Future homeschool mama here. I found/subscribed to your channel because of your Babywise video. Hubby and I were both homeschooled, and plan to homeschool our 3 month old when she is older. I was just telling him a couple of days ago about this book that my mama used to teach me how to read, and that I want to find it to use for our daughter! So glad to hear it's still available. I remember my mom covering up the pictures with a blank sheet of paper while we did the lesson and read the story, so that seeing the picture was our "reward." It worked for me! =) Thanks for the video, will be looking forward to more tips.

Our first week with this was tough, but after that he (4 1/2 yrs) started to ask me about “reading.” His favorite part was rhyming and writing...now it is the picture that goes with the story and the writing practice. I also cover up the pictures and use color pencils to add a bit of color on them. We’re on lesson 31 and he is also using Bob Books alongside this (when/if he wants) for readers. At first lessons were taking much longer than the recommended 20 mins & I was discouraged. I realized I needed to set a timer and if he wanted to stop we would save the rest of the lesson for the next day. Now the lessons go much more quickly. Every child is different. My son also was already pretty familiar with his letters and sounds, so this helps.

Trying to find a video with help for me lol to see if anyone else dealt with this. But nobody really explains the beginning of the book. Warning to parents who struggle with reading themselves. There is a lot of info for you to read first. May seem small to others but big for you. I think this is what she means by boring. People assume struggling readers read slowly or can’t comprehend but some people struggle like me with getting overwhelmed with looking at an abundance of words at once. I couldn’t get pass the first page🤦🏾‍♀️ Other than that. I have no doubt that it’ll be great for your child if that doesn’t bother you 😊.

As a retired public school teacher who taught hundreds of children to read using the public school program "Reading Mastery", I recommend that the parents read the first twenty five pages. The information in the first 25 pages. Not only will help you understand and use the program more effectively, but The information given in those pages Then any class I took either in my undergraduate are my graduate degrees. I strongly recommend to any parent who's considering using this program to take time to read those pages..

I’m a homeschooling mom and my oldest is 5! We just started this book on September 1st and he loves it so far! He got a little frustrated with the rhyming at first but now he is doing so good! He is a pretty easy kid to teach so I am not too worried about it being to dry… my biggest concern is that it might leave out some thing he needs to learn right now. In your opinion, should I be doing some kind of language arts and grammar alongside this? We started with a phonemic awareness book last year and never finished… I just felt like he was flying through it and was getting bored. He is willing to learn more and I’m afraid I’m holding him back. Today he completed two lessons from “ teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons” just because he was having fun😆♥️.

I'm using this book for my 6yr old son, and I think it works better with ESL kids (I'm a Korean daddy). First few lessons weren't easy for us, but now it's one of his favorite time with me. only 1 lesson for a day, and it can always be delayed if the bed time is too late. I passed a lot of repetitious parent's script to make learning time less than 5 minutes. Since there's not enough time to get English sound, I can see that he's changing his pronunciation and getting self-confidence on it. So, I can say this book is really helpful for ESL Kids.

I have the book and am just starting this with my almost 5 yr old. Reading ahead in lessons the Rhyming section I foresee him getting confused because we are pointing to the letter, saying the sound, and then adding a sound that's not written there. Was that an issue? Also, what are some supplimebtal activities to maybe make it a bit more hands on?
