This is the essence of truly good horsemanship. Play long enough to let the horse figure out what his job is. Allow him to get wrong and then encourage him to move up and get back in the game. He enjoys his job because he is controlling the cow and he used his capacity to think to figure it out. Tremendous work with real partnership! I'm willing to bet that this colt will be meeting you at the gate every day thinking "Hey, what are we doing today?".
