The instructions for each hand is clear and repeatable with practice. But you gloss over how to put the two together. Without sheet music as a visual clue, this is a significant omission.
@pianoinaflash4 жыл бұрын
Actually Dianne, the entire goal is to play it without the sheet music as a visual cue. Music is in the aural domain, not the visual. I realize fully the difficulty that presents for people who have previously only considered their ability to play by their ability to read sheet music, but that is faulty logic for the styles i teach. Written sheet music notation is no more music than a recipe is food. Suffice it to say we address this whole topic in a LOT of depth throughout my method at pianoinaflash.com

@@pianoinaflash I have worked around some of the top Euro bands and especially symphonic metal and that can be complex but they do not use sheet music either. When they have actual symphony added to the pieces, they record an actual symphony who is classically trained to read & play the sheet music score they have for that song. But the rest of the band does it by your method just on other instruments. Personally I appreciate your helping so many get past that mega sheet music roadblock. There is a time and application for that, but we all are not Mozart so there is no real purpose in it for practical use in many cases.

Like most boys I struggled with piano lessons while my sister became a virtuoso. It just didn't make sense at the time and took too much time. Now, in my later years, I regret not learning enough to actually enjoy playing the piano. So, at 72, I am finally going to do this thing. Thanks for the encouragement.

Pretty neat! I teach piano the old fashioned way and tell them it will take them a while before they can sound like that. If I taught this way from the beginning I may have kept many students interests who didn't want to crawl before they could walk! I would actually show them Joy to the world from hi to low C just the melody. Your way motivates from the beginning! Thanks!

Thanks Scott but I agree with some of these comments. One of the most important aspects of playing this is the timing. How the correlation between the left hand and right hand works. I have been able to figure it out but a count out of beats during play would be most helpful.

Hi Scott, I”m having a chronic case of “walking/ chewing gum” issue. However, If gured with such an easy tune like this, I can break through it. I’m starting to have some success. My logic is to start of with success on as easy level as possible. Then when I know I can do it a few times, then progress to slightly harder and so forth.

I am very pleased that I can play the entire tune with right hand but wish you explained more how to get left hand sync with right. I never played piano before. Perhaps in the paid lessons it will have better explanation? Thank you so much for putting up the free lessons
@edchepenАй бұрын
I have the same question about figuring out how to get the left hand in sync or figure out when to play it or the count for when to play things(without a bass clef - with that it is trivial) I have the paid course and after finishing book one I almost returned it because there was no explanation for how to do this. I kept the course thinking that this will be covered but so far nothing and now maybe I am wishing I had returned. The support team said that I had a hand coordination problem - which I don’t think I do because again I can read the bass clef and if I had it for this song, I could play it just fine ( I do have other renditions with a bass clef). I think this method is it is all or largely by ear and I think that if you don’t know the song, you won’t be able to play it … at least correctly.

Scott. I am working with your book called Favorite Piano Fake book. If I might ask a question ?.. with most of the chords played with the left hand, the upper notes of the chords are above middle C. and they clash with some of the melody notes played with the right hand. I am missing something here. please help,, thanks, Len Tudor
@pianoinaflash4 жыл бұрын
Aha! The dreaded thumb crash! :-) Yeah, every now and then when the melody note is the same as a note in the chord, it ends up getting down into a spot where your left hand is trying to play it in a chord while your right hand is trying to play the same note in the melody. My advice is so un-scientific it’s going to sound sarcastic, but … Just move your left hand finger out of the way and play it with your right hand in the melody. Or, even better as far as something pro players do all the time, just play the entire melody line up one octave from where it is written. (If you do that you need to play the entire melody from start to finish up one octave, not just that single note that is causing the crash.) To put it in perspective, there are just no “absolutes” in all of this - it’s music … 🙂 Hope that helps...
