A challenging question that I was asked last year during a phone interview was to tell about a challenging student I had and how I addressed that challenge. I was also asked to tell about a time I dealt with a difficult parent and how I addressed students that had special learning needs.

Teachers interview questions are so ridiculous, for example why do you want this job? answer I need money. Why do want to work here? answer I need money. What do you think of our behaviour policy? answer: its crap, nobody follows it. it is only used to mess with teachers and to impress Ofsted. where do you see yourself in 5 years? Answer: on a beach relaxing and not here. How would you deal with a child that is not behaving? (do you want be to tell what I want to do or what you want to hear). We should skip this question. If you need more help please feel free to reply, I will only tell you the truth. For example, you will not be rich as teacher, you should get your dream job, learn from it, gain experience from it, don't just become a teacher and have nothing to fall back on and you need some to actually teach, learners don't want you to just teach text book what everyone else is learning, they might as well stay at home and watch KZbin video's. There are some challenging behaviour children that will go out of their way for you to lose your job. Enjoy life, buy a house, have children, don't get caught up with the educational system politics until you have finished paying your mortgage. DO NOT LET YOUR WORK ENVIROMENT RUN YOUR LIFE.

Common questions for PGCE applications surround 'what does diversity mean to you?' or 'how do you create an inclusive environment?'

I’ve been asked before about how I will involve parents in the children’s learning or how I will get parents involved in the school.

I think fitting into the wider community and a commitment to that are key to being a successful teacher. I think it’s worth considering how you can be a part of that community for sure.

Thanks Katie & Ryan for sharing your tips/questions! I especially like the idea to have a favorites list because although I know the answers it helps to have the resources written down.

Definitely I feel like those questions can throw you so much! I’ve been caught out before so it’s good to make a quick list.. even if it’s just in your head! When was the last time you went for an interview? I had one this year and it was really informal so I didn’t find many of these questions came up. I guess each scenario is different!

Thank you Kate! We know that it’s important to find a balance between personal and professional. You don’t want to come across like you live and breath teaching but of course want to sound like you know what you’re talking about 😅 Glad you enjoyed the new video!

Hi Katie & Ryan! Loved your video and the suggestions you’ve made. I’ve been thinking about doing a Teacher Interview video as well. I’m going to meet with my principal and get feedback from her. You are so right about people coming in to classrooms and looking straight at the teacher’s data binder or the students’ data trackers. They want to see progress. In my district they even ask the students what they are learning about and what their strengths and areas of improvement are. They want the students to have ownership of their learning. Thanks again for all of the wonderful tips! They are really great. Wishing you the best always. Have a beautiful day!

Thank you for your response to our video - I know others will find it useful! It’s definitely so important to acknowledge progress and I think it’s becoming so popular to concentrate on that rather than the actual teaching methods. We forgot to mention that often people will ask the children rather than the adult. In our first video about interviews we discussed how sometimes children are involved with the interview process and can be featured on the panel! Thank you again for the kind words. I hope you also have a beautiful day!

Don’t worry Gem many teachers interview in more than 2 schools before securing a job. Sometimes the school already has someone in mind for the position! Did you ask for feedback or do you have any idea why you didn’t pass?

You will normally receive a call or email telling you if you have been unsuccessful. Especially if you have been into the school to formally interview. If you just sent an application off this might not always be acknowledged. Hope this helps!

Hi Sinead - I have a few interviews lined up for secondary English over the next month and am also struggling with finding any good advice. Assuming you've had yours, I was hoping you'd be able to share some of the questions you were asked? Thank you! (And good luck!)
@sineadclancy27865 жыл бұрын
suzstyling hiya! Yeah I’ve had my interviews now and they both went really well. The main questions I was asked were things like, why do you think teaching is right for you? What do you think you could bring to a classroom? A tricky one I was asked was that I was given a statistic around boys not learning as well as girls and how I would try to tackle this issue

Hi! I’m in my last year of uni and I’m on course to get a 1st or 2:1. I’m really loving the idea of being a teaching but for my a levels I got CDD. Are teacher training institutions highly concerned about a levels? Any advice would be greatly appreciated:).

I don’t know for certain, but I imagine this would be acceptable for a teaching degree. Will you study ‘teaching’ for 3/4 years or do you plan on doing a specialised degree (eg. History) at university, then adding a PGCE on the end?
