@@PetitePrimary I know! I'm pursuing an English PGCE and they suggested a five-minute lesson on the introduction of persuasive writing. I've tried to make it as concise as possible. I'm so confused if they expect for there to be mini activities or if I just speak and explain the topic.

What would you recommend (at interview) if you have a less sorted out area in your application profile, such as lack of experience in schools or similar situations with your target age group (secondary in my case)? I have made many approaches in the attempt to gain such experiences, but covid has made it more or less impossible.
@PetitePrimary3 жыл бұрын
I would address this if they ask the reason why, but you need to persuade them further about why this does not have an impact on your ability to be a good teacher and the knowledge you have on what the roles are of a teacher. Eg emphasise skills you have that are transferable to the classroom, uni modules maybe that were relevant and what you learnt, experience in the field of the subject you want to teach etc. Hope that helps. You can address it but don't sell it as a negative about yourself, counterbalance it with positives!

Hi Would love to run a couple of questions by you. Love your videos by the way. I find your explanations and voice to be really clear, not excessively wordy, and fairly concise, thank you. I have an interview coming up. The first interview didn't go well, and here's why I think it didn't go well: - My organization of my answers wasn't up to scratch and I ended up rambling and not really answering their questions adequately. (I DID do a lot of research but I didn't "connect the dots" and I was incredibly nervous) -the feedback also stated I should familiarize myself with the curriculum more deeply (I'm applying for primary) So how would you suggest I could remedy those aspects? Secondly, I had a couple of stumbling points in terms of questions and ONE of them was about the long-term effects on education of COVID in the past two years. Having not expected this question, I went into personal detail of how living in Korea with the constant masking of the kids even at a young age has had detrimental effects .. etc. But I perhaps didn't link it well enough to the question and to the situation as regards England. So how would you answer a question about COVID long term effects on education, while avoiding any potential politically divisive language?
@PetitePrimary3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Niall for the kind words first of all! Sorry to hear about your first interview, but the fact you've reflected on it and use it as a learning curve is brilliant. It's good that you did research, but like you said, connecting the dots is important. I'm a waffler too, so I understand how you can get into a tangent and then lose train of thought. Always make sure to link back to the question, or link your reason and analogy to the general aim of why you want to be a teacher, what would make you a good teacher or why you want that provider. Regarding subject knowledge, the national curriculum is easily accessible but as it is a daunting read, there are summaries that you can find on Twinkl. To make sure you have good subject knowledge, you can also do previous SATS tests or give yourself mini audits based on the curriculum to see where any gaps in your knowledge might lie.
@PetitePrimary3 жыл бұрын
For the second question, I would definitely link to the impact on England. A lot of countries have reacted differently and have experienced different impacts on education, so keep it local. You could talk about the effectiveness and accessibility of home learning. How some parents might not have been able to support, eg children who are learning phonics but their parents don't speak fluent English - how this could increase the knowledge gap. How children who are from poorer backgrounds might not have been able to access the learning due to only having one laptop etc. Hope that gives some ideas to look into

Hi @petite primary - I’m about to make a decision if I should train to teach at a higher education route i.e. PGCE at the University OR through school direct (non-salaried) - what’s better, please? Thank you 😊
@PetitePrimary4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, I can only "sell" you on the route that I have experienced which was a school-direct SCITT. The pros of this are that you have two or maybe three placements but you learn so much because you're constantly in the classroom and on the go. I did a PGCE alongside this which was affiliated with a university but I didn't go to uni at all, juggling all my assignments during half terms. I think if you're a hands on learner, are better under pressure than school direct might be for you :)

Hi do you have any videos/tips for questions when visiting possible placements once you have been offered a place on Scitt?

I want to teach primary. In 2018 I had a place but I didn't know that I was pregnant. So shortly after my interview it was the case of keeping baby or career? I knew I was going to become a single parent, was not in a great relationship and financially I could only accept salaried route. Which that was what I was offered. Last year I had a place in 3 training providers all unpaid. I couldn't seem to get benefit help on top so I dropped out again. I'm trying to apply thing year but afraid the same will happen since most salaried routes are filled up already or it seems salaried routes are less and less. X

@@bellaboo2830 Sadly, salaried routes are very hard to come by admittedly. I researched this for a long time as I thought it was awful that primary didn't get bursaries or any help. Hi, how is PGCE for international students? Are there many international students who pursue it?
@PetitePrimary3 жыл бұрын
Many international students choose to train in England, however, I'm not 100% sure on how it works but I know you need to find out whether your qualifications are equivalent to the English requirements in order to determine your eligibility beforehand xx

Hai... I'm an international student... Do I need a Master's degree to teach in UK?
@PetitePrimary3 жыл бұрын
You don't need a full masters, no. What you would need if you already have a bachelors degree is to go through a postgraduate route of training. There's a lot of different routes available, such as Teach First, SCITT programme or university led routes. Might be something for you to look into xx

Don’t do it. Find another profession! Trust me!

Please don't discourage people from pursuing their dreams. I want this to be a positive and supportive channel, thank you.
