Funny enough that when you go to Copenhagen, many of the drunk people you see are Swedish. Just like you'll meet a lot of drunk Norwegians at the bar's on holidays during daytime. We are Vikings. We drink, eat and fight. And to quote the Danish Queen. "In the past history we (the Nordics) have been good friends and sometimes not at all. We have had peace and wars but thankfully we have been close for a very long time now".
@anouk66442 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting and yet not surprising that in the Netherlands we have the same mindset as Denmark and other Nordic countries. For Janteloven we have sayings that are loosely translated as “act normal, you’re already acting crazy enough” (doe normal, dan doe je al gek genoeg) and “don’t stand out of the crowd” (je kop niet boven het maaiveld uitsteken). Hygge comes close to the also difficult translatable “gezellig” (cozy, warm, spending quality time with loved ones). Both are ingrained in Dutch society.

Great Britain was populated by the Judes (danish), the Anglos (danish) and the Saxons (germans), a mixture of largely danish people, both Judes and Aglos (As in Anglo saxons)are of danish origins, on the way, they mixed with the Dutch and Flemish, this is why dutch and danish is so close, and many countless words in english are derived from danish as well. As a Dane, I can sort of kind of a little bit understand spoken Swedish and Norwegian (ironically I have an easier time understanding Swedish in writing; I enjoyed reading Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy in the original language) - but I generally prefer to switch to English just to avoid potential misunderstandings, since practically everyone in the Nordic Countries are fluent in English. Also, the thing with the "potato in the mouth" is absolutely true, and we don't even deny it. Danish is kind of ridiculous, and you absolutely have a better time communicating in Danish if you just mumble half the words.
@elinfagerheim21552 жыл бұрын
I'm Norwegian and live at the west coast of the country. When we are in Denmark we can communicate rather well with the Danes (as long as both parties slow down a little bit and avoid certain words from our local dialect) but most of the Danes we talk to think we are swedes because of our dialekt. All three languages are very similar, but in my experience it is often harder for the danes to tell wether a person is from Sweden or Norway because the the languages are so similar (verbally). Funny about the written language though, I've always found it easier to read in Danish than in Swedish.

And remember to enter the country by bridge or ferry, don't walk over the frozen straits. _NOTE 1:_ Remember you are allowed only to *beat* the Swede with a stick, *not kill* him; such task would be reserved for the military. _NOTE 2:_ In the English city of *York* they have a similar but more lethal law. There it is still legal to *kill a Scotsman* should he be encountered *within the city limits* _AND_ *wearing bow and arrow.* No bow and arrow, or not a Scotsman? Sorry you can't kill him.
