My father graduated from JHS in 1950. While a great piece of architecture, times changed. No more learning to swim in PE class naked or large number of students. After being abandoned this long, obviously no one wishes to renovate the building. Tear it down before illegal immigrants move in.

This school is terrible!!! I grew up in the neighborhood and this school was always bad. Hillcrest highschool isnt much better. I dont think its so much of the teachers but the students. They come from dysfunctional families and they go to school and dont want to be there. The teachers could have been better. I dont remember a teacher that made a difference in my life. I had several teachers who read newspapers during the whole class.

This was a fantastic school because of the teachers alone, if anything. If you ever needed help they'd do whatever they could, or get you to someone who could. You ever had a question they would answer it. Problem is the STUDENTS who didn't give a damn, so many of them abused the teachers, didn't show up to class, don't do any work. Those who DID however, there was nowhere they couldn't go, full scholarships to Ivy League and top of the line trade and tech schools, West Point, with help from Fac

Graduated in 96, I remember metal detectors 3 times a week. Definitely was not a safe environment for children. To make matters worse, the building was ancient, degrading and filthy, most probably breathing in asbestos.

I attended JHS back in 1992-1995 I was on the varsity lacrosse team lol. 169th was a nightmare! anyone remember the liberty hit squad? lol black baseball caps with the sparkly letters LHS? the amount of drugs and weapons in that school during my years...insane! Go Beavers!

yeah man your right, the students caused this. The building is huge, it has a swimming pool, a huge as field. A perfect school. I think i know what happened. This was a zoned school and many students were lacking there grades to go to a differnet school, other than Jamaica high. This happened year after year and the school was full of failed students.
