In my school(Finland): There aint a classroom with sepret desks, we dont have dresscodes, primary to middleschools are all the same level, no matter what school you go to, you have the same change to get good grades. We have subject called "kotitalous" more familiarly "köksä" or in some towns "kotsa". There we learn to cook and to do much more housework. Thats three hour a week, and two of arts, three of sports, two of crafts, two of music. That makes 12 hours a week of unacademic subjects!! And know what? There is classroom built in the school for each of those! Arts and crafts, both has their own classrooms.50% to 30% of the grade comes from the test. What about everything else? Yeah, PART of that is homework, and ur notebookwork, BUT it also includes taking part on the conversation, how you do teamwork, focusing on lessons, and all that!! In Finland, we do lots of tasks on groups. And thats really a big part, believe me! I am grateful for the Finnish schoolsystem, and wish you best of luck to school and life!❤️ I know I didn't write every thing correctly, but I know that you understood. Just really wanted to share my thoughts.

I am from finland too! We even have 3 hours a week when we are learning some skills to fix motorbike and how to drive it or how to pay taxes or how to spend money wisely. And so many other things that you gonna need in normal life. They even teach how to handle social skills.

I myself might be held back from graduation if I don't keep up my grade in Chemistry. I am a Senior in Highschool and the feeling is scary. I love writing, which is why I do so well in my English class. I just don't see the purpose of chemistry, I could learn, the subject interests me, but when we are overwhelmed with worksheets, notes, homework, Tests. It just ruins it for me.

My math teacher teaches in a way that everyone goes at their own pace but is still in a group. She makes sure that we all understand. She will not just let us get a question wrong on our test, she will help us through it until we are confident that I understand it. The way they teach isn't the only aspect of kids not understanding though. For example, my LA teachers, all of them, have been super excited about what they teach which helps me and the rest of the class learn better. I feel like I can have a normal conversation with my LA teacher without feeling like I am a failure and stupid. I feel as if I can grow to know and understand the knowledge that we are all going to to school to know.

When I was in high school, my English teacher took a bold, new approach. For our final exam, rather then give us questions about theoretical components, she had us write an essay on a topic of our choosing from a list. She also set aside the first and final five minutes of each class for us to have to ourselves, and even had us all play Conentration at one point. She was nominated for Magic 100's Golden Apple Award, and she presented the diplomas at my graduation. If she can take those innovative steps, other educators can.

There is this class it's called skills we went on a website for reading and math but the school stoped using it so I thought yes we might have a chance to learn something we'll need like CPR of what to if you get bit by a rattlesnake but nope there going to teach the math that no one will use out side of school and something about language arts ,if you can read so people can understand you and your not dragging your words that good if you can do basic math that good they don't need to learn stuff they will never use its point less .

Ngl, this video hit home for me because back in school I was never the smartest apple in my classes. I was put into a learning support programme because everyone and sometimes my teachers thought I was slow and treated me like I had a learning disability. I always felt insecure of myself as a student im just happy I had some teachers that were patient with me and were kind but the majority just gave up on people and made us think we never had a future. I finished school 5 years ago, no longer in contact with my school friends and I'm working a full time job as a grocery assistant. I could have gotten into a big university after finishing college, but life has other plans sometimes.

I just finished my junior year in high school, and I still don't know how to apply to college or what tuition is. I've learned how to save lives as a lifeguard in less than a year but I've spent 11 years in school and I haven't even been taught how to take the next step in my education. And every time I ask my mom she tells me that I have "no common sense" or that "you should already know this" or that "I can't walk you through life." But how am I supposed to know something that I was never taught?

I go to a unique school that is a public charter school the first charter school to run off Charlotte Masons education system. My school allows the children to explore the outside world without using any unnecessary technology and I truly believe some schools are amazing and really teach the students to get out there and not trap people in isolation for 6-8 hours a day I know I’m not getting really deep into the school topic but I feel like if schools don’t focus on isolation students would actually learn something important about themselves!!

I mean the teacher in 7:06 says that he believes in groups and wants to do all that, but when I look at the board I see lines as: "Keep your room clean" and "work quietly" so there's actually not much he wants to do. That doesn't really mean anything, you can discuss things quietly without disturbing the people around you, and everyone needs a clean learning environment, I don't think that you would like to study in a dirty classroom full of trash or something like that. To summarize: 1. “Work quietly”: It doesn't mean you shouldn't speak at all or discuss things, I think it just means that you should not be yelling around and disturbing your classmates. 2. “Keep your clean”: Nobody likes studying in a dirty room, believe me, I'm from a Latin American country, and every time I go to classes the room is full of litter, with obscenity written on the wall and tables, etc. Everything is very disordered, you wouldn't like studying like that.

The school system is a joke. We are often seen as good students with good marks and failures when we get Fs. I got "good marks" not because I genuinely want to learn, but to protect myself from vulnerability like scrutiny and embarrassment. I got through my years in school with people pleasing, and that is not education. Now I can't trust everyone who shows me "good marks". I think school should teach people emotional intelligence, like how to manage our minds and emotions, develop healthy boundaries and effective and assertive communication. If we are going to teach young people, we should teach them stuff that applies to everyone. I emailed my local school board about implementing emotional intelligence as a curriculum, providing facts, references and personal take on EQ. School really do need to change to enhance the lives of each individual, not to teach them to conform to one standard.

I saw another video where teachers reacted to another video of price ea!!! The teacher replied “we get them ready to work in the factory” that’s when I shouted “YOU JUST DONT GET IT.” If they get us ready to work in a factory how are we going to get better in life? The government will never listen until we make this an issue!!! Like how there is a bunch of rubbish in the ocean we made it a big deal and the government of some countries acted!! They think we can hold all of this info into our brains but they don’t know how my stress we go through just to fit one piece of information into our brain! I am in eight grade and make good grades but school is still failing me because it makes my life miserable. Most days I nearly have anxiety attacks over teachers yelling or doing something. But like always nothing has changed. I am one of the smallest in my grade and carry a bookbag over half my weight. I have a lot of back now but still nothing has changed. The fact that most text books are coming out of Texas and are decades out of date doesn't help matters at all either. The government goes by budget rather than bothering to actually educate. I don’t know who else saw this but one of the male teachers has something on his board that says “exit ticket” and then a question underneath I have seen this before in my classes and basically it is something that you have to answer questions to leave the class but what if they don’t know the answer are they never gonna leave class, I mean yes it might be smart like you have to answer questions and it might help them learn but it’s also saying oh if you can’t answer this you are stupid and you cannot leave my class I don’t know if anyone else is thinking that this might just be me but in my opinion I don’t like it. I feel like no matter what subject a teacher tells, there’s a way to make it very interesting and make a child very interested. If a child isn’t interested, then that’s okay. I don’t have to be 100% into every subject, as long as i have a passion about something, that i think creatively about what i’ll do, i will succeed. There’s a way to change a world simply by following a dream, it’s really sad that to be able to pass a class, you have to have an A in every subject.

I disagre in few way. I think standardisation is the only way to certified that you are able to do a job ie. engineers , Doctors, Handeling agent, Lawyers ... When you talk about Mark zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, yes they are all college dropouts. But they knew basic IT which they learned in a time and frame where technologie was expending so fast that we didn't know how to used it. In a way, you can reduced their work to art, as they created something that people didn't fundemently need. Would you be able to accept the fact that everyting that a society really need is build by people that went to school. You cant build a modern city if you dont know mathematics and pythagorean theorem. You cant heal someone if you dont know how the human body works. You cant fly a boeing 747 if you dont know how aerodynamic work. You cant find the cure to cancer if you dont know basic chemistry. You cant be an electrician if you dont know basic EM physic. School is an essential tool for modern society to be sure that basic..... basic... baaaaaaasicccccc.. .knowledge is learned. I think you’re missing the point. Or at least how I see it. This video is attacking general education. Not specialized education like doctor, lawyer etc. where special testing is required. If you want to go into that field, sure. Go in for that. That’s what specialized education is for. But our general education is extremely flawed and debilitating in the USA. Most of the knowledge gained is simply lost anyways. In a previous video from the same guy, “What is School?” He does highlight and acknowledges the fact that there are parts that we should keep. We do need basics and such, that’s a fact if we want competent adults. This video and the other, is attacking the way it’s taught, structured and all the extra unnecessary fluff

Qc.Wtf for sure. I think tasks and assignments that are outside of a child’s comfort zone is a good way to push that childs mental capacity and ability to adapt. But I think that can still be achieved even after we’ve stripped away the things that don’t work and rework the overall US curriculum
