i teacher sally i found some thing wrong in the missing letters, as you can in the last word it should be (rivers) but actually this is a mistake because there is no enough spaces for it , so in the test you will just answer (river) which it is wrong.
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
Hi Khaled, you are very observant! I instinctively put the 's' on rivers and I don't think it even occurred to me to look that closely at the box. In reality, this passage is talking about one river, The Mississippi River, so I should have not added the 's'. For items in a series, there is not a rule that says all must be singular or plural. The issue would be if they used different articles (a, an, the). If that were the case, the article would have to be individually placed before each item.
@bobparker24243 жыл бұрын
@@TeacherSally Sure I also wanted to address that as well. Logically there should be rivers but as we know the space that is given is not enough for the word and it should be plural right as the previous words so I was leaving it with rides

@@eliyoung5823 The last question? The interview question? Remember - this question is not scored. It is usually something general. Remember, if for any reason you don't understand the question, you can always talk about how you're nervous so you didn't catch part of the question. It just goes to a person. Its someone like me who just watches these things. Its probably a nice person who would understand. Most admissions counselors aren't actively trying to reject you. Most of them want you to attend! Teacher sally, I'm getting 95-135, 95-145 and sometimes 105-115. It seems a big inconsistency in my marks at the practice test. Can u tell me what is this for ? I have been watching your videos till 15 days. Its is very useful
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alif! You have a great question! I think a lot of people probably have the same question! It's really hard to know exactly what causes inconsistencies in the practice scores. I think part of it is that the practice tests are very short, so sometimes you may get more of one question type than another- and it could be that sometimes they give you more of one that you're good at and sometimes, more of one that you're not. On the actual test, the number of question types is more regulated, so the scores are usually a bit more consistent. Also scores can vary because of our moods when we take the test! I think the best way to know what you're really strong or weak in would be to take a real test and get your subscores. I tell people if they can afford it, to plan to take it twice. The first time is sort of a trial run to see where to focus the study efforts. Of course, it gets expensive to take the test multiple times, so I think try to do as you are and be as prepared as possible for the first try. If you don't get the score you want, though, those subscores do help you know where to focus your efforts!

Hi Teacher Sally! I received my result today and I scored 100 (but I need 120). My sub-scores were: Literacy: 120 / Comprehension: 95 / Conversation: 85 / Production: 110. How can I improve my Conversation and my Comprehension? What kind of exercises I have to practice to enhance that sub-scores and achieve my desired punctuation? Thanks for everything.
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
Conversation and Comprehension share the questions of Listen and Select the real English words, and the dictations- listen and type the statement you hear. So thats a good starting point to practice with. For conversation practice, I think there are also other ways to practice besides the test questions specifically. For example, I think its really good to do things like turn on the dictation on your phone into your notepad, or on a computer with a voice recording app, and read quotations to your phone. When you go back and look at it- if any of the words were recorded incorrectly, then those may be words you want to focus on practicing. If you notice its always certain letters or sounds that its making a mistake on, then you know thats an area to work on. You can practice reading poems and listen to yourself. I also think its good practice in general to just read out loud sometimes. It is good practice for your muscles and makes the words come more easily when speaking. I also think just listening to something in English that you enjoy and then afterwards speak out loud summarizing what you just heard. It really can be anything- a TV show, or just a commercial on TV or radio. Its just practice repeating information that you hear.

@@TeacherSally Thank you again Teacher Sally, It will help me. In other order of things, I scored 110-140 / 115-135 / 105-150 on the Practice Test, but on the Real just 100, is that common? I would like to suppose that I was nervous... Can I obtain 120 in a week using your advices?
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's common. Most people tell me they score in about the middle of their range. I think so many things can affect a score, so it's hard to guess what happened. If you felt nervous, it really could have been that. Test anxiety is very real! Based on your practice scores, I would think you could score 120! You can do it! Just remind yourself that you are ready as you are starting your test!

Hi Teacher Sally. First of all, thank you so much for your videos. I want to ask you something, I have been practiced the Duolingo English Test for weeks and my scores have been: 110-140 / 115-135 / 105-150. What would be my final score on the real test?
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
Hi Luis! It's really hard for me to know exactly where your real score would fall on the actual test. Most people score in about the middle of their ranges, and you have several different scores (that practice test doesn't seem very accurate!) The range between 105 and 150 is pretty big! I'd have to guess somewhere between 120-135, but it's a total guess! I don't know what affected your practice scores- could be question types... could be that you were sleepy one day and very focused on another ;-). Its almost impossible to guess! I think (depending on the requirement for your university) it's best to just take it and see. Then you can have the subscores to know what area to focus on if you do need to re-take it.

@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
Incorrect answers don't take away from the points you've earned, but they don't add anything to your score, either. Missing a question basically makes the test give you an easier one next time in that question type. How that affects you is that it is less opportunity to increase your level in that particular subscore.

Can u please advise I can appear for real test. Eagerly withing for response. Your advice and response is highly appreciated.

My advice for quick study is to focus on the subscores that you scored in the middle with. So look at your real test subscores and find the ones that were middle of the range for you and focus on practicing those questions. Those are usually the easiest to improve. Since it's a short time until your next test, that is what I advise. Also when you answer questions like the dictations and the writing responses, remember to go back and make sure you have punctuation. Those little things can add up. Most importantly, just relax because stress can make a big difference, too! You'll do great!

What can i say for finding difficulty in the question
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you find difficult. You can't pre-plan too much or they will just say the answer sounds rehearsed. I think that if you can't understand a word, you could explain that though you think the prompt is asking for (x), there is a part that you cannot understand and you know that these words could be vital to the meaning of the question. If you cannot understand it at all, maybe you know the words but the meaning of the sentence isn't clear to you. In that case, I would explain how that is the difficulty- it'll have to be specific to the question, so you can explain what the words mean to you that you know, but that you don't understand the phrase in context.

Hi! Bundle of Thanks for your guidance. I've a query. I am a fluent English Speaker . I'm really exceptional in all four skills including Listening, Writing, Reading & Speaking. I tried Duolingo English Test. As it's Computer Adaptive Test(CAT) so during test the level of difficulty enhanced in each section. I performed well by providing my abilities in English. I was planning to Score more than 140 but I only received 120 score Sub-Scores: Literacy 120 Comprehension 120 Conversation 120 Production 125 What's your feedback Mam? Do I have to retake the test in order to get my desired level. Thanks
@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
You will have to retake the test in order to change the score. It's very difficult to know precisely what caused your score to be lower. My advice would be to go through and refine anything that you know is a typical area you have trouble with. You probably have an idea of your natural tendencies. For me, I tend to speak too fast. On a test like Duolingo, I'll start talking and finish really quickly. For me to prepare, I need to practice answering questions in a slower more thoughtful way. For you, maybe you tend to speak too fast or too slow- pacing can matter. For writing, think about the organization of your answers. Are you giving a good clear topic sentence and following with your supporting ideas? (follow the sub-questions in the same order they are presented) I ask because it is an American test, and they may count off if you use a format to answer questions that is different from what they expect. If you got dictations, little things like punctuation can matter. Did you start each sentence with a capital letter and end with a period/full stop or question mark ? Its a little thing, but things like that can add up. That's all I can really think of without seeing your test. I wish they would share the reasons for their scores and tips to improve!

@@TeacherSally I'm so much thankful for your humble opinion. But I personally don't want to prefer Duolingo again. The reason is that I am really disappointed from scores. Do you believe that in my 2nd attempt my test results couldn't certified because they mentioned Room was not always private. Otherwise I was sitting in a quiet room and on test time there was no body in my home. As I'm living in Muslim Country Pakistan, there's a loud sound of CALL TO PRAYER from Mosque Loudspeaker due to that my test didn't certify. Lastly I'm fulfilling the requirements for University having 125 score in Production but internally I'm not satisfied. I'm planning to appear in IELTS now it's costly but accurate.

@TeacherSally3 жыл бұрын
@@yogananthannithushan9183 For the purpose of this test, I would say to focus on enunciating all of your syllables in speaking. Sometimes pronunciation can be affected just by that alone. Also take the few minutes that the prompt appears before the timer starts to really thing of what you want to say first. A lot of people skip that time and start panicking and try to speak immediately and quickly. Really focus on slowing down your speech to allow yourself time to think about what you're saying. For writing, taking the time to go back and check for spelling and grammar mistakes can really help to improve a score. Another thing is actually focus on writing concise shorter sentences first and then you can go back and edit for more complex sentences. The reason I say that is sometimes we think we are writing a complex sentence, but what's happening is we writing how we think and how we think isn't as clear to other people as it is to us- so we could be making more grammar mistakes than the points gained for writing a complex sentence. So try to say things in as concise of a way as possible, then when you read through to check your answers, you can combine two grammatically correct simple sentences into a complex sentence. That way you know it's grammatically correct. For vocabulary, do you mean that you want a general vocabulary lesson to teach new words, or more specifically identifying the English words?
