My second year teaching I shared a meme on Facebook that said “U ever be so stressed and u look in the mirror and ur like wow ok great l'm fucking ugly too” and was called into my assistant principal’s office and told that a parent had complained that I was cursing on social media, that I should remove the post and withhold from cursing online in the future. Do they hear the words coming out of their kids mouths? 😑

I'd be more concerned that a parent is on your social media because the parent needs to learn boundaries.

I teach at an all-girls school and the fear of being alone with a student is REAL (male teacher here). I’ve only ever hugged students at graduation when their families are there (and usually only students whose parents I’ve gotten to know). Thanks for bringing that up

Im not a teacher, but a patent. In my humble opinion, teachers/educators at ALL levels, whether they are teachers for a career or the love of teaching; are TEACHERS during whatever your regular school hours are. Once you're 'off' the clock, you are just a human with your own life and should have full control over your PERSONAL life. PERIOD!!

The incident with the sweatshirt on the principal, I would say that the school is an environment with a dress code, and the principal did not wear the shirt to school. Outside of school, there is no dress code--except the ones their parents establish. In addition, adults have different privileges than children.

She would teach us for 4 hours and the other 2 hours we would grade eachothers homework from the night before. She was nice enough, but I hated her.

I used to be very careful about my relationships with parents. I have always been friendly, open and encourage communication but I always thought I’d never go out with parents (dinner, Mexican and margs), buuuuuuut……a couple years ago my “room mom” became really close with me. We seemed to just click and it was one of those instant friend things. She is also one of those “you are my friend, we are now friends and will always be friends” people- just what I needed at the time. She is now one of my best friends! She is like an Aunt to my son and I consider her children the same way. She is now family. (I also convinced her to teach middle school ELA last year 😆) I’m still very cautious about becoming friends with parents but I would never rule it out

My point I wanted to make was if you all were at the water park in your bathing suit or if you are shirtless, what is the difference if you put a pic on social media or if they just see you there like that? I mean, they could legit take a photo of you there and post it themselves right? And you're just living your life, like you said, not doing anything illegally but being appropriate for the environment.

When I started teaching in 2008 and I had to have the parents sign a release form just to film my lesson for my BITSA homework. And I had parents that didn’t sign it so they had to go to another classroom when I filmed the lesson because they couldn’t even have their voice on the camera so they couldn’t just sit behind the camera. And only my BITSA coach was watching with me so we could discuss what/how I did and critique the lesson. I can’t imagine the social media aspect of it all.

You expect us to go about 3-4 hrs without eating a snack or drink anything. When my teachers be having anything the want

Yeah but the difference is students aren’t talking constantly (or shouldn’t be). When you’re teaching you need liquid to keep your voice - professional speakers are always provided with water on the stage. And on the food front, when you have a class and then in the lunch break you’re dealing with a student issue and then you have a meeting - 100% I need food to get through the next class or I’m too hangry to have patience. Students can get food and drink in their breaks, and are more likely to spill stuff everywhere

It’s hard for students at my school because I go to an all girls high school and he have a handful of male teachers and so the teachers are constantly interacting with females and sometimes it may look weird when the male teacher has to have a one on one conversation outside because they might be acting up or something, but at the end of the day, those male teachers know where their boundaries are and where not to go when having those interactions

Declawing is horrible. Cats tend to bite after because they have no protection. Plus they can have a lot of arthritis, pain, issues over the years. Either they amputate the last bone of each toe or they laser or cauterize the nail beds. Walking is different after. Their weight distribution and balance are so different.

I love these podcasts but I can't get over the casual admission of declawing a pet cat. That's one of the cruelest things you can do to your cat; it is absolutely animal abuse and should be illegal for any vet to even agree to do it. To the teacher who declawed, I'm going to deeply hope you just didn't know any of this but if you care about their wellbeing at all, never declaw again. There is no good reason.
