My favorite teacher was not a teacher but our Principal. Shout out to Dr. Pelophski. He was my middle school principal and followed us to highschool. When I had problems understanding some of my math or science he found ways to make more interesting and helped me find ways to understand. I am currently 45 y.o. and thanks to him and his ways of helping me I found a passion for working with students and have even used some of his techniques to help the other students that I have worked with.

One of our junior high students brought a puppy to school as a Valentine's gift for his girlfriend. Not a stuffed animal but a live, flesh-and-blood, six-week-old puppy. His dog had a litter at home, and his mom made a comment about finding them homes. This boy swiped a puppy, put him in his backpack, and got on the bus.
@justinegray491811 ай бұрын
The puppy started whining in his bag during 1st period, and the teacher called the principal down. The principal called the kid's mom and the girlfriend's mom. No one could get the puppy until the end of the day, so he was kept in the teacher's lounge. One of the teachers got him some soft puppy food and water, and all the teachers got puppy cuddles that day

Same teacher would fight that they can have a phone (for none work things) because they're a teacher. Same one that took my work book threw it into their closet off on the floor, and all my stuff spilled out. Made me wait outside the class to yell at me, that I walked out after and they school didn't make me go back. There was like 2 weeks of school left. This with a lot of other moments made that teacher my enemy. They tried talking to me when I was visiting after I grad, and I walked away without saying a thing. Yes, the beef was real.

Re: embarrassing proposal rejections: I had a friend say once, "Well, yes to you, but no to that whole marriage thing." He said "That's cool" but split 2 months later. A friend of my sister's was taken to a fancy dinner at age 20 and proposed to with a big ring. She said "Could you hold on just a minute?" and and ran to the pay phone and called her mother and asked her what she should do. Her mom suggested that if she needed to call her mother, that perhaps she wasn't quite ready for marriage.

I’m a school kitchen manager and a male teacher 8th grade teacher found me crying by myself. I lost my son 2 years ago and it was his birthday. I was caught off guard when I went to write the date on my paperwork, and l inadvertently wrote my son’s birthdate. I looked at the clock and thought middle school should be back in their room, so I let myself cry. The teacher just quietly let me cry and explain. He gave me a little hug before going back to his class. I appreciated that gesture.

Talkin about only children, I was having a discussion a few weeks ago with my brother and sister in law. They have 2 sons, 17 and 11. My sister in law was saying she can always tell which of the older sons friends have siblings and which ones don’t by how they interact with my younger nephew. The ones with siblings will always acknowledge the younger one, saying hi when they come in, and interacting/talking to him more. The only children often don’t say hi, unless my younger nephew says hi first. They don’t really interact with him at all. I’m not a teacher, I have studied psychology a bit…and I do think that kids who have siblings are socially different than only children. (Not always the case of course) i have 2 daughters and they are very loving…when they do argue, my littlest one usually ends up saying how much she doesn’t like her sister. I have to remind her how lucky she is because a lot of siblings fight so much. When I take one somewhere without the other (like when oldest is at school, youngest isn’t in school yet), if they get a treat or a toy or something, they both ALWAYS say we have to get one for their sister. “Because it’s not fair I get one and she doesn’t” I have 4 older brothers, I’m the youngest and only girl, and I don’t ever remember going to the store as a kid, getting a treat, and thinking of getting any for my brothers lol.
@heidikickhouse-6 ай бұрын
Could that perhaps mean you're a better parent than your own?
@jamiegoldsby11636 ай бұрын
@@heidikickhouse- I think it means we can take what we learn from our childhood, and take the good and leave the bad. I also think it was the dynamic of my siblings and I. Plus I was the youngest, with 4 older brothers. I needed them to know I was boss, lol, so the dynamic in the house I grew up in, vs my kids, is much different. I hope I’m a better parent than mine, in many ways. But there’s many ways I also take from growing up. Our family was always very open, able to talk to our mom about anything. She was one of the moms that talked to us about drinking under age or whatever. She’s like “I know how peer pressure is tough. If you end up somewhere and drink, I want you to call me to come pick you up. You aren’t going to be in trouble because I want you to call me to keep yourself and others safe.” Type thing. It happened with some of us. And yes we did have to have a discussion the next day, but it was more important for her that we learn that we can trust her, and she will be there, no matter what. Yes she didn’t WANT us to do any of that shit, but she knew how kids were/are and told us all of that. Those are things I’ll pass on when my kids are older. I’d rather they come to me if they mess up, rather than continue to make bad choices and ruin their life. We ALL learn from our parents and are hopefully better than our parents. Maybe some more than others…what amazes me is how different families who grow up together, end up raising their own kids.

As a middle schooler, the drama is insane asf. For example, a guy in my class(or should i say boy, he's chronically immature) dated my former bestfriend, then another girl in the class, but then said that he was in love with another girl all along, but didn't stop asking other girls out, and trying to get 2 girls to date him at the same time cuz he though cheating on ur partner was cool.

Hey, Teachers Off Duty team: After seeing your episode on inclusivity, I wanted to include the fact that though I am not a California state licensed or credentialed teacher, I am a TESOL, Teacher Of English To Speakers Of Other Languages, instructor; my colleagues and I perform many of the pedagogical duties a state licensed teacher must perform, such as exam administration, grading, lesson planning, etc. However, sadly, we cannot administer government exams, such as the IELTS, International English Language Testing System, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, TOEFL, or speak with the school psychologist unless in a brick-and-mortar classroom. However, we can administer English proficiency exams, provided they are not government-sanctioned and perform all the abovementioned duties. Sadly, I am still called a tutor in many instances. However, we still have standards called the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to which we must instruct. Am I still a teacher, even if I am not licensed in the California state system but certified internationally? Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Best regards, Cole

I was like " whatttt I didn't even do that idk what she is talking about" and ik my sister backed me up cuz she told her that I wouldn't ever do that . We had one drama in High School that continued after we graduated, because that little group was still close the first year in collage. I am not from the US. I am in Austria, and High School is a little different here when it comes to classes. So our classes are not assigned by the subject, but a permanent group of people, that you are going to spend time with the next four years. And most of my classmates went to the local University. So, there was this one dude in the popular group in my class, who was all in all pretty nice and like to flirt with every girl, but my two best friends and I soon noticed that he only flirt with girls, if he needs something. Otherwise, he will just be nice to you. He was together with our class president for one year, who was one of the smart girls in our class. (She is a lawyer now.) Then they broke up when we were in our second year of High School. She moved on and had another boyfriend of one year, who was not in our school. I think it was around third year summer up to our senior year, that these two started dating again. Which surprised me and I asked one of my best friends for the deeds, because she was in the same piano group with the smart girl. And my best friend had the feeling that this dude was using her, because his grades dropped a lot and since they were still friends somehow, he asked her to help him with his grades, and they spend a lot of time in the summer. That girl still had some feelings for him, so they got together again. However, we knew that he only did that to pass the final exam. Then we graduated, and I lost touch with most of the people from my High School, beside my best friends. And funny enough, I saw the smart again, because she lived near where I lived, and I met her best friend from High School at collage once. I, of course, told my two best friends about that, and they told me that the smart girl and her best friend had a huge falling out, because of this dude. Here comes the drama, that asshole cheated on the smart girl, with her best friend and this started at the end of our senior year. My eyes went sooo wide. I knew that this dude was a player, but I never imagined that he would be such an asshole. He was attractive and charming, I admit, but with this action, he got so unsexy. Like absolutely not! Most of the drama in school is really petty, but this is something else. I'm 29 now, and I am baffled that this actually happened.
