teaching a puppy recall (come when called)!
Well, it's been a week since we brought little Chakabear home and we are finally hitting our stride (a good potty routine, training, and playing routine)! I hope that those of you who have been following along, and may have gotten Christmas puppies this year, are finding the training tips helpful! We've still got more coming your way and will try to put them all together on a KZbin playlist for easy review :) At 9 weeks old, you can certainly start shaping all obedience commands with food - but one of the things we focus on pretty quickly is sitting for what you want (to go through a door, to get pet, to come out of your crate, to get a food reward, to chase a toy) to promote politeness and no jumping and RECALL! Getting your puppy to start coming when called is a simple skill that comes in hand for the rest of their lives - but it takes lots and lots of practice, proofing, working around distractions, and repetitions to get recall reliable...so it's best to get started ;) Here is a fun food exercise I enjoy doing with dogs which is a combination of recall, sit, and their release word! 3 in one...well and feeding them a meal, so 4 in one benefits 😂
