Awesome video, very informative! :D I'm from the UK, I have an English degree and a TEFL certiticate (TEFL Gradtuate 120 Hours online) I also have experience in UK schools and I've spent the last 6 months teaching english to Chinese kids online. I'm moving to Bangkok soon do you think I would struggle to find a TEFL job in Bangkok? Thanks!
@Fluffyduff
@Fluffyduff 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I don’t think you’d struggle to find a teaching job in Bangkok right now, they’re crying out for English teachers. With that being said, the salaries (and benefits) in Thailand can be very low! I would definitely mention your experience in UK schools as that is going to be your most valuable asset. Maybe hold on to your online teaching gig too, just to make sure you have some income whilst you look for a more well paying job. I hope that helps!

Hi Jengira! Your video is so hopeful! I just finished my PGCE in foreign languages in London and have experience working in secondary education. I'm not an English native speaker but I teach Spanish French and Greek (I also have TEFL and have taught English to people in Asia online). I was wandering if you think there are jobs for fireign language teachers and if not being a native english speaker would be an issue? Also do you have to do your NQT (ECT) years in the UK in order to teach abroad? Thank you so much!
@Fluffyduff

Hey, thanks for stopping by. There definitely are jobs for NNES but it’s all about finding the right school, there’s lots of shitty low paid jobs out there. My old school hired NNES. There are ways of completing you QTS abroad but I’m not 100% familiar with the process, a lot of international schools would like you to have experience in the UK/USA/home county first too. With the rules changing and ECT becoming a thing, I’m not 100% how that works either. I hope that helps, sorry I couldn’t answer everything!

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. How's the virus situation? Are you being paid if/when your school is shut?
@Fluffyduff
@Fluffyduff 3 жыл бұрын
I have left Thailand since, and no I was not paid in full whilst the school was shut, only 25% of my salary. I believe Thailand is starting to open up again, however vaccinations are not at a sufficient rate.

@@Fluffyduff Not being paid as in your contract. Should have reported your employer to the labor office. Did they ever deduct and pay your tax or insurance ? This is why they love tourist "teachers". Treat them any way they like.

@@ronwood9164 I know a lot of people this happened to, and it's no fault of the school during a global pandemic, they aren't helped out by the government. I worked for a small international school and if school wasn't open, they couldn't afford it as they didn't charge parents tuition.

@Fluffyduff

I would try to cover it up if I were you. It really depends what school you work at. My school were pretty relaxed about the ones on my wrist, but preferred my arm tattoo covered.

Hello and thank you for your information. A question or two I have for you please. Are all schools and English Centres open in Thailand now? I am wanting to move to Thailand early next year and without a degree. I believe the English Centre option is better yes? I am Australian and I hear there are options for native English speaking people to work particularly. Is his correct?
@Fluffyduff

I’m not living in Thailand anymore so wouldn’t have up-to-date information for you. You need a degree to teach legally in Thailand though.

Hello ma am.I am from Pakistan. So u can imagine m not from English speaking country. My qualifications are Masters in English literature and linguistics and Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). I have 8 years teaching experience and I will be 37 years old in August. I visited Thailand in 2019 and i love this place. But I have no TEFL. Is there a chance I can get job of English teacher in international or local school. I m coming to Thailand in the mid of May.

Hi jenguira, I was looking to move to Thailand in the future. Im from the UK . Ive been looking at teaching with BFITS. Would i need to get my UK degree legalised from the THAI embassy in london? Most of my documents are already apostilled by FCO because Ive been teaching in Taiwan.
@Fluffyduff
@Fluffyduff 3 жыл бұрын
I think they would only need to get legalised by the Thai Embassy in London then. I’m not sure how picky they would be about how long ago they were legalised, sometimes they’re funny about that kind of thing in Thailand. You’ll have to forgive me, this isn’t my area of expertise!
@Lone_Star86

@@Fluffyduff thanks for the reply :) how did you go about getting your documents legalised then when you was working in Thailand? Is it even a requirement?
@Fluffyduff
@Fluffyduff 3 жыл бұрын
@@Lone_Star86 No worries! I had to send my degrees back to the UK and have them certified and legalized. Luckily my partners parents helped out with this or else it would have been hella expensive! As far as I'm aware it's a requirement unfortunately.

@@FluffyduffDo you know any other countries in SE asia such as Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam etc that dont require all this legalisation of documents. Ive already booked my flights i wont have anymore time to go to foreign embassies. I already have my documents notarized and apostilled.

@@PearlMrsP This is our 3rd wave. It's not a good time to come to Thailand right now. Most places are shut, they're starting to ease some restrictions even though the infection rate hasn't gone down, so I would be suprised if they were to open everything and shut it again. We're about 2 months into this shut down with hardly anyone being vaccinated.

@Fluffyduff

Thanks for the input, you could argue it depends on the school. I landed a decent paying job with a three year degree. I believe teaching in Thailand is not set in stone. But your best option to protect your future self is to get more qualifications (PGCE, QTS).
