Something I’ve found helpful when teaching someone who’s getting used to the shift pattern is using 3rd and 4th as sort of a “home base.” Basically if you’re unsure where you’re at or not confident you’re not going to money shift, those two gears are straight up or down from being totally in neutral with no left or right pressure on the shifter.
@Tool0GT924 жыл бұрын
My wife has been driving stick for like 15 years and she still goes in neutral all the time. I tried to tell her that you use less gas slowing down in gear but sometimes people do things their way.

How’d you get the rev hang so low on your 9th gen. Was it the flashpro? My girlfriend daily’s a 2012 civic si and you literally have to wait for the rpm’s to drop(no flash pro). It doesn’t like being shifted fast
@Kamakaze042 жыл бұрын
That was awesome! She did better then I did when I got my 2013 SI. And I’ve been in a 1996 z24 5 speed, 2002 rsx 5 speed, and I learned Manual trans shifting in a 96 jeep wrangler with a 5 speed long time ago. (The Jeep was brand new). Just awesome

I know when I first started driving manual, I couldn’t listen to music, and when my buddy was talking to me, it was hard to focus on the road and what he was saying and my gears and etc. so I feel her when she said she’s multitasking and would need to like “coast” or pull over to fully understand the things you were explaining to her. But great video. Will be teaching my GF soon as well lol I’m a pro with everything now except heel toe, which, I don’t need because I’m fine with rev matching or double clutching etc.. lets race! Haha
@skyhigh57474 жыл бұрын
I think it's a matter of how she holds the shift knob. She's pull more towards her than away. Try back handing it, or just watch one of Aki's video on project driver
@probablytherealpaul4 жыл бұрын
Great tips for shifting like a pro. Vivian, don’t read this, but honestly, you could coast as much as you want and shift without blipping the throttle on that car for years and the clutch will still be fine. Maybe not so much if you’re slamming gears...
@FL5_OGryan4053 жыл бұрын
How many miles is on your 9th gen? Also maybe I'm just use to it but I don't really feel any difference when vtech comes on. I'm sure it's working, the lights on the dash light up when you get to 5k,6k and 7k rpm like it should.

Happened to me a couple times going from 5th to 6th and accidentally went into 4th while driving fast and shifting at 6k rpm in 5th to 6th, but went to 4th, which obviously the revs would be way above redline, and it saved my ass!!! Got luckily, but gotta be careful going from 5th to 6th sometimes when not paying attention fully.... I was lucky lol

Interesting. I’ve always double clutched and blipped the throttle BEFORE shifting into gear when downshifting, but also when coming out of neutral and into a higher gear as well to save the synchros. Is putting it in gear, then blipping the throttle much different, or mainly to save the clutch?
@a.a.27833 жыл бұрын
To save the synchros you allways need to double clutch. blipping the throttle after shifting is just to save the clutch.

Hmmm coasting vs staying in gear. I know it's personal preference, but someone once told me this and it stuck with me: What's cheaper? Clutch parts, or brake parts? Usually, brake parts. Coasting is what I prefer.
@edwardinvegas4 жыл бұрын
How many clutches have you gone through? :-) I just had to change my 2007 Civic Sdn Si clutch out at 229K, I put all the miles on it... Waiting for the 2022 Civic Si to come out, replace then.
@Ehren13374 жыл бұрын
I always coast to stop sign. No issues anyway lol
@BboyMobster4 жыл бұрын
Same I was told it’s better to go threw brakes than using the transmission to slow down the car. Idk it’s al preference I guess.
@RickSniperX4 жыл бұрын
keeping in gear instead of coasting in neutral improves the gas consumption bc the injection shuts off when the car is in gear and the foot's off the throttle, and doesn't put stress on the brakes bc of engine braking, so in fuel injected cars it's better to just keep in gear, saves some money on gas and on brake pads on the long run ;) love the content man

My reason she could not learn on my Si was because I needed to break in the clutch. She can take out my 5speed forester anytime. Problem is the engine and transmission mounts are pretty shot which makes it more difficult to shift smooth.
