Fun fact: a lot of "gen z slang" is just AAVE (African American vernacular English) and/or language used by queer black/brown communities. It's important to remember the origins of words a lot of ppl take (and often misuse)! 😊

@@bliblink8143 It's legit BOTH sis. Gen Z and many pop culture references come from the black community. It's still adapted to Gen Z because a lot of Gen Z use it. Nearly all American music an origin from black communities, but it other cultures adapted (and some stole). It's important to know the origin, but it's fine to use it if you're not black and acknowledge that we influenced Gen Z slang (any many other gen's and cultures). Let's not get ignorant and lose the plot.

If anyone didnt know this is AAVE not genz slang. These are not generational terms they are slang created by minorities in USA. Based on my limited knowledge, basically, AAVE was created because black people were never taught "proper" english and never went to school because they had been slaves, so they came up with their own ways to say things, leading to slang we still use today. Most of these words emerged from clubs and communities including LGBTQ+ and racial minorities excluded from society and have been "popularized" by gen z and used more often by people of all colors. I think this is also where dances like vouging and tutting + drag flourished as a culture in America. Correct me if anything is wrong, but everyone please call this slang for what it is 💞

I feel like a lot of these kpop stans randomly throwing in historically queer and black slang for some ‘humour’ to describe a kpop idol seems very on point for how kpop itself takes from black and POC spaces- from the music to outfits and lyricism, it’s like one big costume without considering the cultural consequences of doing it. But we learn to accept ig 🤷 because people hate being corrected and it’s been happening since forever.

Mother is also used a lot for males who radiate iconic queen/feminine/genderless energy and for lgbtq people lol
@glowrillaz5 ай бұрын
It is exactly that. The term "mother" comes from the ballroom scene. It originated in queer spaces specifically the drag scene as a way to describe an older & influential drag queen, and it seems like most people are clueless about the context it should be used in because I think a lot of people think it’s just the equivalent term of “daddy” for women but realistically it’s another case of people taking queer and aave slangs that they don’t entirely understand.
