This vid is so helpful for many who have wanted to try pota amd need some examples of what to do. Im still in my first year of pota'ing and i have some high anxiety for calling cq because the pileups make me nervous and i dont like dissapointing people who are trying to get in. Because of my hard of hearing (too many years in the music business) and my nervous dyslexia i feel like im too slow or too awkward when working pileups. Im sure ill out-grow that feeling, but for now 99% of my potas are me going to a park and hunting other activators or trying to make random contacts to make my minimum 10. I'm all SSB. Have not tried pota via ft8 or cw yet. Thanks for this helpful vid. Cheers and 73!

Ive never tried POTA or SOTA activations as of yet, but since I am starting to get back into backpacking and camping I think I am going to try these out. Just ordered an X5105 to throw in my pack, but I’m not expecting very much out of a QRP radio from all the way out there in the middle of nowhere in Hawaii. Now I just have to figure out how to do all this, lol.

Well you had me excited until you said Hawaii. I know everyone in the world will want to work you thats for sure! Thats a tough state to get in the log for a lot of folks on the main land. You'll still have fun and i'm sure you'll make contacts. I love the X5105. It's a great little radio. The tuner will tune just about anything you throw at it too so a 9:1 antenna is great with it for all bands. I hope you have fun and maybe we'll catch you on the air. Could even be a Park to Park!
@WH6FQE3 жыл бұрын
@@hamradiotube I waited until now to decide to dive into QRP because of the propagation issues and the sun cycle, but now that the solar activity is increasing it’s time to dive in with both feet. WOW! This is like the perfect example of exactly how to hook someone into ham radio. None of that "oh you gotta take this exam" or "well the HF bands are the frequencies of 3 to 30 MHz, which have very different propagation methods per frequency due to the effects of ionospheric refraction that is affected by various solar and geomagnetic blabhablabhablhablh." Nah man, just get their butt in front of a radio, show them the buttons to hit, and work freakin HUNGARY! Show the passion, the excitement, and the adrenaline of never knowing what's going to be on the other end. That's amazing dude. I'm gonna borrow this video for YOTA presentations.
