Teaching My Toddler How To Catch and Cook His Own Food From the Wild

On this episode of the Adventure Agents Im teaching my 2 year old son Cedar to trap Mongoose on the island of Hawaii. We catch and cook one of these incredible creatures using a spring pole snare and a rat trap.

I love that you asked for feedback. We've been watching you guys for the past few years. Your family is inspiring. I love how you've put those Sarah and Patrick talk times at the end of a few of your videos. We personally have amazing community in our lives, but a lot of the way we live doesn't look anything like the people we hold most dear. It's amazing to have this gap filled with getting to watch the way you live. My kids get so excited when they see you pull out snacks or cook a meal that looks like ours. I loved watching Sarah make marshmallows the other day. It was like relief to see someone else doing something I've done so many times for my kids to enjoy a treat! We don't have access to living off the land as intensely as you all (other than lots of gardening and getting our eggs from friends' chickens), but we're doing more every day, and you actually inspire that in us!! Thank you for demonstrating the way you balance screen time and off-screen time. I've always been so hesitant about letting screens into our lives (we do, but reasonably limited), but watching Patrick and Ax adventure and then include some screen time in together has helped me put it in perspective. Again, it's like your family fills a gap in the community that we need. It's amazing. You're amazing! Also, yes- Love IS a Who- we also know what that Love feels like and are grateful beyond measure. Nice catch! You both are parenting just the way nature intended. When ever you can Trinity were talking about that at the end my son sort of looked at me like my parents are like that. We love being outside in nature, gardening, and learning about native plants. Neat video. Looks like Cedar had an awesome time. I'm sure the big kids had fun with Trinity too! My husband and I appreciate and respect what you are doing so much. We, too, are doing a nose-to-tail animal-based diet and we have tried to involve ourselves and kids as much as possible in the processing/harvesting part, whether that be culling 50+ chickens for our freezer, butchering numerous deer, or helping our amish friends process several whole hogs. It gives them a deep understanding that we should honor the animal by using all of it that we can. Please keep doing what you are doing. You may be the only guiding light in many children's lives showing them the ancestral way. Also, praying for Sarah- that she may have a smooth delivery, quick recovery, and a healthy baby. This video was so fun to watch! And wow, that dinner looked delicious! I've never had mongoose but I'd be down to try it! Our family hunts and fishes and we're always trying new food. Really fun video! The mongoose hunting was really exciting! The eating a mongoose was a bit squeamish lol, but it's cool to know they can be a viable food source. I thought it was really that Cedar is old enough to start doing some solo adventures. Please hunt and trap more stuff!
