1991 - my wife and I bought a brand new Accord coupe - 5-speed. It was up to me to teach her to drive a stick. She was doing great until we came to a stop sign before heading up a hill. The guy behind us in a utility/pick-up truck didn't have the patience to wait for her to get going - so he HIT us from behind and went around us and took off. Went to the police station (no cell phones back then) and they really didn't care as they said the guy was long gone (probably true). She was a little gun-shy after that - but drove the Accord on her commute for 5 years until we bought a Legacy and the Accord became my commuter car. That 5-speed Accord was a great car. Oh - great video too!

You did better than me. I had 5 minutes and gave up with my wife on a stick shift. I’m from the UK originally and now live in Canada. The only automatic I had ever driven was in an armoured personnel carrier in the Army. Automatics were for the rich growing up, but it seems driving with a stick shift it’s becoming a hidden talent.

Yeah, driving a stick is pretty much a novelty in the USA anymore. But it’s still a fun thing to learn.

In the UK a manual is what you learn in, unless you deliberately ask for automatic only, but if you pass your driving test in an auto you can only drive auto, whereas passing manual means you can drive both.

You folks are so cute! Such a nice video! So much fun. Looks like you were getting the lesson there at the end Elliott 😂

Hang in there Kenzie and keep practicing. It will become 2nd nature and you won't even think about what you're doing. My sister drives a manual Z in Dallas traffic and she got 80K mi on her clutch before she sold the car.

Wow! That’s some good inspiration right there.

Kenzie is so awesome 👏, what a great life partner you have there Elliott! Your daughter must have the most incredibly blue eyes and blonde hair? I had to learn to drive stick in my 1966 VW 1300, it was really hard to engage anything smoothly in that car and nothing was power assisted.
@ElliottAlvis3 жыл бұрын
Charlotte has blue eyes yes, but her hair is almost a strawberry blonde. The VW sounds like a great car to learn on! The less assistance the better lol.
