This was so helpful and gave great ideas! I’ll definitely be trying some of these because I’ve noticed myself leaning more and more towards the Charlotte mason method.

I loved getting to hear how you do it 😁I don’t think I’ve yet met a homeschool mom who hasn’t started reading lessons too early with her first child! So I can relate. We are using Charlotte Mason’s method too. We are going through the Free and Treadwell Primer and using the Teacher Help from A Delectable Education that goes with it. They have picked out all the words from each story of the book so we do lessons very similar - introduce the word, take it into mind’s eye, spell it out from memory with wooden letters or sand or finger in air, find it in print, sub out different first letters to change the word, and review previously learned words. My 6yo loves the word “gingerbread” 😂 My 3yo learned the word “pig” and always wants to find that one in print 😂 no matter what lesson I’m doing with the 6yo. I want to do a poem sometime, but I think that will be easier for me to pick the words out of myself than a story would be, so I appreciate the ADE teacher help guide 👍🏼 it makes it much more open and go - they have all the words to be found in print on pages that you print out on card stock, and then you spread the ones out for that story you’re working on and let them find the new word and they also like to find other ones they already know, so built in review! I also dictate sentences to him from words he has learned, and he can make them with the word cards.

ADE is such a wonderful resource! I've listened to them all, and consider that podcast my Charlotte Mason "gateway" haha! I'll check out that resource, as I'm kind of doing all the work on my own right now, depending on what my daughter wants to read (poems, nursery rhymes, etc!)

Very helpful. I have been curious about this. We are starting to embrace more CM into our homeschool and I have a son who will be in 1st grade next year. I really like the Primer book you mentioned. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Loved this video! Thanks for sharing. I've missed your videos! My little ones aren't at the age yet where formal lessons are necessary but it's nice to watch your videos and give myself a head start! Do you find your 3 year old is more interested in reading watching her older sister learn how to read?

Aw, love hearing that! I'm so glad to be back, finally! Yes, my three-year-old is soooo interested. But I don't force it! Haha. She will write random strings of letters and we wil sometimes work together with her wooden letters!

Thank you! My daughter is in the build words level. She knows a few sight words. I’ve been looking through the original McGuffey’s Pictorial Primer to plan reading lessons for her. I’ve been waiting until I introduce long vowels. I’m pretty comfortable with teaching her and she LOVES to practice word building, I’ve just been insecure about the sequence. *How far along in phonics should she be before we start formal reading lessons?
@CharlotteMasonMotherhood
@CharlotteMasonMotherhood 2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely begin while she learns the phonics rules... How old is she? She doesn't need to know all of the phonics "rules" to begin learning rhymes, etc! If she's six... definitely no need to wait. If she's four I would wait a bit!
