The AC delay function eliminates the need to install a Delay on Make relay at the compressor . Nice !!!! I’ll look for that feature on my next thermostat . Thanks. Again, more great information

Great video. I always wondered about the compressor delay. I know with a lot of window units, they manual will tell you to wait 5 minutes after you turn it off before you turn it back on. But I've also been curious about the many videos of techs working on an outdoor coil. Seem like a lot of times, during their testing and diagnosis, they will kick the compressor on and off during a repair or whatever, and they don't always seem to wait 5 minutes between starts. Just curious about that. Thanks,

From what ive learned about doing that exact test is to see whether the compressor has the power to pump the system and to see if the valves inside the compressor are not weak or faulty.

Could I test the thermostat for proper function at the furnace or AC unit in the same way ? I would assume yes just wanted to verify Thanks for all the great content
@johnnychang42332 жыл бұрын
Yes, you just unhook those wires shown in the video from the boiler or Air Conditioner side and test the continuity when setting the desired mode 😉

Keep in mind, a problem that could arise from testing at the furnace is if there is a broken thermostat wire.
@servant-4-jesus2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisdeanndavison3626 thanks 👍 Then I could disconnect the wires and connect 2 together at a time to test continuity. Right ? Or do you know a faster way 🤔 my old boss would have me just run wires from t Stat to furnace but it is a lot of wire sometimes and then I have all these long rolled up pieces of wire on my truck it always seemed like a waste to me 🤯
@chrisdeanndavison36262 жыл бұрын
@@servant-4-jesus I believe you could tie all wires together at once to test continuity. It would save a lot of trips from the basement to the thermostat. Although, if you have damaged insulation (which is not uncommon in a broken wire situation) and wires are touching inside a wall, that wouldn't work either! If that were the case, you'd need to test for continuity with all wires disconnected from each other and also the equipment. If any wires test 0.0 ohms between and they're disconnected from everything, then it's a short. Thermostat wire issues can take a long time to diagnose!

Good video. Normally for process industry compressors, the suction pressure is never equal to the discharge pressure. But why it is important for HVAC compressor? Thanks.

Sure glad I've watched your videos to have the same conclusion that the tech that came into my home did. $450 dollars later and the same parts replaced that I thought. Because they are accredited they get the parts sent under warranty, but if I try?
@roberts11592 жыл бұрын
If your system still has a parts and labor or just parts warranty then you would either pay zero or just labor to install tstat. If I understand your question correctly. If you were to install the tstat cost is totally on you.

can you show us how to install a 5 minute time out relay for the compressor and what is the best relay to use. I want it connected to the Line side and if that hasn't been hot for 5 minutes then 24 volts will not make it to the contactor.

@aajdre65562 жыл бұрын
I typically don't use the batteries I just use the power through common and red (24v)
@PosiP2 жыл бұрын
@@aajdre6556 so if the Tstat is powered by batteries and the power resets, and you have a call for cooling as the power is reapplied you could get a compressor starting with high pressures. That is the reason I asked about the timer relay. For heat pumps, you could just break the power to the reversing valve to equalize as well. I was asking a question I know the answers to, sorry.
