I m an SLP from Greece and I just wanna say the biggest 'thank you' possible for everything that you've offered to us SLPs and parents all these years. You 've conducted my BEST 'supervisions' without even knowing it. You are amaaazing, I've learned so many things from you and I honestly don't know how to express my gratitude with words! My son is 3.5 years old, until the age of 2.7 he had maybe 30 words maybe less. He goes to logo therapy for like 7 months now and since then he must have more than 700 words in his vocabulary. Maybe more cannot count. Of course i would say 50% are not clear. He does sentences of 5-8 words but still not clear. 70% of his errors i would say are constants. Our logotherapist says he has characteristics of apraxia, we are confused. Should it be considered mild apraxia if he has or it is considered normal apraxia? Is it like that for all kids who have apraxia? They can speak somehow even with errors at his age? What is considered mild? What normal? And what severe apraxia please?

Thank you for this. I wish I had found you sooner. My child with apraxia is turning 4 and we spent years being dismissed by the pediatrician and “wasted” a year with an SLP who swore she wasn’t apraxic. The neurologist we finally made it to knew within 5 minutes she had apraxia and she fits exactly everything you are saying in this video as apraxia as the only diagnosis. 😢 I hope more professionals find you and less parents go through what I have.

Jessica, did you do exams or assessment at the neurologist? My heart says that this is what my doughter has , but like you I am just waisting time and money getting little support with people who can't diagnose her, while on waiting list for MRI and genetics. I feel we have not been doing the right method at her private speech therapy either, but just doing what we can for the moment, don't expect the therapist to do miracles either if she actually can't talk. If you could let me know please, how exactly you got the diagnosis, I would really appreciate 🙏. I believe, it opens the right doors to best help your child now 😊

I look forward to your podcast on KZbin , I’m from a country where services is really hard to get and expensive (not insurance covered) and you have helped me a lot to supplement the skeletal services I get, Thank you. I got a couple of your books, shipping was really stressful cause of my location it will be nice if access to a pdf can be available for purchase for people like us with no adequate delivery services in our country. I truly appreciate what you’re doing . God bless

Thank you. As a parent this is the information I needed. Unfortunately my son SLP hasn’t had this conversation with me. He is autistic and his doctor diagnosed him with possible apraxia after discussing his things going with speech. It’s okay to have those candid conversations so I know what to expect and essentially not get my hopes up as it’s possible he might not talk as soon as I’d like.

My son is 8, and has been extremely gifted at reading since 3years old, yet, he was nonverbal till 6. He used to make a choking sound, and once he could, he told me he was choking, his throat was closing, and somewhere I read it was aphasia..but he loves different languages, he knows Russian and Spanish. He loves learning, he's obsessed with learning, yet he has issues with back and forth talking. He doesn't like to write but does write on the device apps, like he knows 4 different fonts of cursive since kindergarten yet only writes them on the phone or tablet. He is autistic and adhd, but sadly he masks hard in public, to the point his doctor wants him re-diagnosed 🙃 I know my son is autistic and just masking neurotypical. He acts like a little adult, and in public won't say a word unless it has to do with directions to Walmart for a toy lol. He doesn't want friends , he tells you " no friends " " no school " and it's sad because he loves learning, that's all he does is learn academics. I try to get him to go outside, he doesn't like that either, and he didn't become verbal til I took him out of public school because he literally stopped eating.. and the choking from anxiety had alot to do with that. He also clears his throat when having anxiety now, so before till almost 7 he would choke when upset, now, he clears his throat over and over.. If anyone has and ideas that would be great, I also think he may have pda pathological demand avoidance, because once I told him it's fine if you don't talk, I like it, ...then he started talking..so possibly, the pathological demand avoidance caused the choking closing of the throat feeling upon demand. Thanks in advance, sorry for the scroll.

Hi Laura - I have a grandson who is being worked up for suspected apraxia/autism but his mother is an alcoholic and drank during pregnancy and nursing - I worry this is more fetal alcohol - how do you tease that apart?

Where is she based? The more I hear the more I think my child could have apraxia. No one wants to help us because here in Ireland they are only "prepared" to support Children with autism, but they say to us my child clearly has no autism but they don't know what it is either and we still not know why she can't speak or can't make animals sounds even though she is already 3 years old. She can hear very well, she understands well, she is smart although seams a little delayed compared to her age and she absolutely loves to interact with everyone, her nickname is smile 😊 If Laura is in anywhere in Europe I would love to go to her for assessment, because she is the first I see that understand about all these developments delays and disabilities.

I’m a parent and my speech therapist recommended you. I have a 2 year old that’s not talking. She also doesn’t understand words. I’ve heard her say a couple of words but she doesn’t repeat them. I’m starting to really think she’s autistic especially after hearing this. She has cognitive issues, it takes her a really long time to learn things and doesn’t like hand over hand. I’m just wondering if I should go for a diagnosis yet. She has created her own way of communicating by leading me up to things she wants. I’ll check out show 430 and have been listening to your late talker series.

Hi Shana... please watch 430 and see what you think. Have you asked your SLP about the possibility of autism?

@@teachmetotalk no, she sees a DI too and one of them mentioned autism. It’s not the one she’s working with now though. We just transitioned to a new DI that has not mentioned it.

@@Bambicakesb thanks so much for replying. I hope your daughter is doing better with the therapies. When I read your comment, it was EXACTLY how my son is. I think he has autism also. Apraxia of speech scares me and possible ADHD too because he is constantly running around!

Can apraxia occur as a result of a frenectomy or other corrections?

Asd 2.8 year old. I've nothing behind it but I have this feeling he has apraxia. He is nonverbal but trying and does his phoenics so copies A B ( brum sound) e f H and i . Nothing else but he tries so hard and does that where he tries to find the sound. I so want him to talk. He had no babbling as a child his sister at 9 months is now the same but now does babababa sometimes. He also might do neh for no but these are all rare things. He isnt consistent.
