According to Trey Parker and Matt Stone it was apparently excruciatingly difficult making this movie. A simple shot of a puppet turning and walking through a door would take them a dozen takes because of how hard they were to control. I think they said making this movie was the most miserable they'd ever been but it was definitely worth it because the final product is incredible.

@@nukiesduke6868 I'm not sure you got the joke. Obviously it is difficult to make a movie with puppets, but not because things like turning were hard like the original post said. The puppeteers were purposefully doing wonky puppeting for comedic effect, like the fights, and the pointing and the turning. They could make it all look fluid and realistic if they wanted to, but where's the fun in that?

The South Park creators said it was so difficult dealing with all the puppets and voice overs in this film, that they would never ever ever make another film with puppets again. Apparantly Matt Damon was quoted in a interview stating-"I thought it was brilliant! I mean, I never understood it, and then I heard an interview with them and they said the puppet came in looking kind of mentally deficient and they didn’t have time to change it, so they just made me someone who could really only say his own name."

My theater experience with this was watching with my two older brothers, since we all loved South Park. The theater was mostly full. About half of us were just dying laughing the whole time. A quarter of the people were looking around wondering why we thought it was so funny, and the rest walked out of the theater within the first 20 minutes or so. It was great.

The speech on the three types of people is the most profound and insightful moment in cinematic history. Socrates, Shakespeare and Freud never understood humanity as well as this.

"There's so much!" "It's, like, spraying!" Easily the funniest vomit scene ever (Family Guy ipecac is 2nd place). It just keeps going, and when Gary starts sputtering and shaking I can't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣

There are actually two interviews in which Matt Damon tells how he feels about his role in this movie. In the first one he was rather irritated, but in the second one he said the director was a genius. :D

I love how they didn't try to be perfect with the puppets. Their awkwardness and the strings made it even more funny. Such a great memorable movie!

This movie is more and more correct in it's portrayal of holier-than-thou actors every day. By now the outrageous behaviour of the caricatures in the movie is probably less egregious than the real deal. I swear to you, Gary's 'heroic cleansing' moment in the alley almost killed me the first time I saw it. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard.

I saw this in theaters when it came out. My friend my brother and I were laughing so hard our stomachs were hurting. What made it even funnier was an older lady brought two little kids and they left in a huff about 20 minutes into the movie. What did she expect the movie was rated R and it was by the guys who do South Park!!! The soundtrack is so awesome as well. One of the few movie soundtracks that I went out and bought after seeing the movie. I so needed this today Love you guys and love your channel. ❤❤❤

Fun fact the design of the puppets were made by The Chiodo Brothers who are most famous for there film Killer Klowns From Outer Space which they made and directed!
@TheDaringPastry1313

The puppets were 22 inches tall and took 4 people to puppet one at once. The short on Matt Damon's character in the movie is that the puppet came back looking mentally slow, so they just made Matt Damon in the movie appear to have brain damage or not all there by making him say his own name.

The hardest I have ever laughed in my life was when I saw the South Park movie in theaters. I had never seen the tv show and was completely unfamiliar with it. I was so sore from heavy laughter at the end I had to legit call in sick the next day. And while Matt and Trey have never won an Oscar, the South Park movie was a nominee for best musical number.

One of my favorite tidbits that Parker and Stone have said in interviews was how the initial screenings went with the executive producers of the film who wanted to see how the hundreds of millions of dollars had gone. With the opening scene of the cheap looking French marionette before it pans out and opens up with the broader scene of Paris, one of the producers jumped up out of his seat and yelled "They f***ed us!"

This movie is one of the most fun I've ever had in a movie theater. I saw it with my friend and we were the only ones in the theater except for an old couple. A few minutes into the movie the old people left because it wasn't really their type of humor so we had the theater to ourselves. I laughed hysterically throughout the movie and we still quote this frequently because the quotes are amazing. I love how stupid and fun this movie is.
