I, the junior Lance Corporal in my unit (MAG-24, 3rd Marines), was the Designated Driver for a rowdy group of young, buzzed Marines on the Premeire weekend for this movie outside Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. We were all "South Park" fans and I personally was a Trey Parker and Matt Stone Fanboy ("Cannibal: The Musical" and "Basketball")...so we were ALL already hyped. Believe you me, we were all CRACKING UP! The rest of the audience was going bananas too. A 300+ crowd audience was sitting through the entire end credits, just to hear the FULL VERSION of the "AMERICA: F*CK YEAH!" song. One of my favorite memories of being a Marine. 3 of my friends from that weekend later died in Iraq and on other missions. Movies like this are a time-capsule of GEN X and Early Millennial humor. Glad you liked it! Check out "Cannibal: The Musical" or the actual Trey Parker/Matt Stone musical Production: "The Book of Mormon" .

Matt Damon wasn’t in the movie - they didn’t even use his voice, just had a puppet that kinda looked like him. Where did you see that he considered it has favorite role? I can’t find that anywhere. From an interview: “The actor was asked recently in a Reddit AMA what he thought about his 'appearance' in the movie, and it seems he was a bit confused by it. "I was always kind of bewildered by Team America, I think because it’s hard for us to understand what our images are in public, I think we’re not good judges of that, and when I saw myself on screen just only able to say my own name and not really that well, I kind of wondered “Wow, is that how people perceive me?"”

The crappy mini puppet in the beginning was meant to troll the producers into thinking the whole movie was like that. Apparently, a Paramount executive shouted, "Oh my God, they f***ed us!" during one of the advanced screenings before the camera panned out. Despite pleading from fans for a sequel, Matt and Trey have said there won't be one because of how difficult filming with the puppets was. The reason Matt Damon only says his name is because of how the puppet turned out. Someone said it looked like a re***ded Matt Damon and they ran with it. Damon himself supposedly found it hilarious. As for the other celebrities, the only one genuinely butthurt about the way he was portrayed was Sean Penn (no surprise). He sent Matt and Trey an angry letter, which they released to the public. Alec Baldwin and George Clooney were only upset that they weren't asked to voice themselves.

Team America is one of my favorite films. This is one that I break out and watch once a year. The film is actually a homage to the Gerry Anderson TV shows of the 1960s. Gerry Anderson and his wife Sylvia, produced several TV shows during their careers. A few of them including "Thunderbirds", "Captain Scarlet", "Stingray", "Fireball XL5", and "Supercar" were all done with puppets and filmed in "Supermarionation". A quick search on KZbin will bring up several episodes of these shows if you care to see what the original concepts were like. I'm 65, but in 1965, when I was 6 years old, I thought "The Thunderbirds" was the best show ever. :)

Great reaction, Addie. The show that is being parodied, paid homage to, is a 60's TV series called 'Thunderbirds'. We watched the scene from Paris in a class in school for some reason I can't remember why but while watching it we had a French exchange student in the class who started laughing for no reason. She explained that one of the cafe's signs said "Cafe Shit" in french. The little things in the movie like that are the best part. Or the guy pretending to be a statue in Kim Jong Il's palace was actually a real dude just standing there.

The "cobblestones" being croissants was also a nice touch.

The south park movie (bigger, longer, and uncut) is hilarious and totally watchable having never seen the show. Strongly recommended!

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are satirical geniuses. Check out any of their stuff and you'll most likely come away having had a glorious time. Book of Mormon is my favorite of their work.

Can you believe there are still people out there that see the puppets and call this a kids' movie?

The Kim Jong-Il puppet was such an uncanny resemblance lol.

I can only assume that "America F**k Yeah" is now at the top of your Spotify playlist.

To this day Carson's whole "Sorry, babe. Looks like this was a (cough) one way ticket." line is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. There's something about the way that was delivered that makes me laugh harder than anything else in the movie. It's like that pitch perfect level of cliche and cringe. If you've ever watched bad action movies from the 80s it's just too perfect.

When I was a kid, there were a few marionette action shows on Saturday mornings in the late 60's. 'Stingray' was underwater, 'Fireball XL5' was spaceships. This move seems most like 'Thunderbirds'. They had an organization called International Rescue!
