This is a competitions show of Renzoku (Pre-arranged) Kumite where the participants work together in the performance. These shows are a misnomer for the term bunkai. The term has been hijacked and none of what is show here is workable in street combat. Before you get upset. Having taught Okinawan karate for over 41 years and a long-time police officer gives me 'some' credibility. :)

People criticising this bunkai must remember that this is the equivalent of a soldier's dress uniform when he is on parade, but that doesn't mean he doesn't pull on his fatigues for combat. Different occasions call for different bunkai, this is competition so requires "show" bunkai. The juicy street stuff is as useless here as these competition, demonstration moves would be outside the pub when it kicked off.
@sinantara6655 жыл бұрын
One can not just dismiss show stuff as useless--it is the field (like tekki is for if you're cornered) and opponent. That is why MMA was invented with its many permutations. I have discovered in practice that even the fancy locks, sweeps and throws can be applied in real fights and afterwards you almost can't believe it yourself. If somebody comes at you with a knife you'll know what works. Have been in competitions (WUKO, APUKO, ASEAN) as well in streetfights so I am not just a commentator. Have been in the US and on an empty road in Alabama between the railway and Greyhound stations on my way to Atlanta I was approached by two unsavory characters demanding I give them my wallet. The anticlimax, just smiled and shook my head, kept my cool, kept on walking manouvering past them but stayed alert and ready, and just polite. This made them in doubt, and for a km we kept up a slo mo ballet of blocking and dodging until we were in sight of the bus station. And this was not the only time--it is as if people with bad intentions can read whether one will be worth the risk of violence. I would at least have some eyeballs. Both were too blocky for conventional punches so I kept focused on their eyes and throats... And this too I considered to be a fancy theory, selfdefense by attitude before it turned out to work... But this too I just one tool--kata means mastering a tool kit and your instinct will select the right tool for the right occasion--but practice!

The kata alone is so beautiful and dramatic, and the bunkai is even more beautiful and dramatic. The funny part, on the other hand - as always - is that the best part of the bunkai isn't really from the kata, is it?
@raymondfrye50174 жыл бұрын
Exactly that. These are show techniques because they imagined what it was supposed to mean. Side kick to his throat,after grabbing his punching arm? Not in real combat...unless you want to get hit in the testicles.

U know im right. If u belive this is bunkai i feel sorry for you. You just an amateur. But then again i dont expect much from wkf sport karateka with superficial knowledge on the matter. As i said give me a shotokan kata and ill break it down for you. Step by Step

@claudiodistefano79639 жыл бұрын
+carlos garcia, so let me see the true shotokan bunkai useful for defense in the street... I know much more people saying the WKF Karate isn't complete, but at the moment of the truth they go away and they don't compare with nobody... In other word: please see Luca Valdesi's kata and let me know if this athlete is not a good martialist.
@carlosgarcia-xh3qq9 жыл бұрын
lol luca valdesi ... jajajaj that made my day. watch his kata in slow motinon. lots of tricks .. and sloppy. do not forget wkf is sport karate .. not the real art. im a black bt 20 years experience.. i simoly do not beive the hypes wkf is about

In the street this cant help ? I am with you brother, looks pretty but not particularly functional ? for the kids ? Misnomer for the word Bunkai ? None of what is shown here is workable in street combat ? - - - Maybe some of the people here making these comments are not qualified , but it looks like NewEnglandBudo should be ! The precision timing and application of techniques shown here are of the highest quality . They are workable techniques . Of course you would not put them together like this in real combat , much like you would not put a full Kata into a street fight . I don't have any affiliation with this , but with my 46 years in martial arst , training and teaching . Shotokan , Jui jitsu , aikido , Wing Chun etc , and my 35 years in Law Enforcement teaching Control & Restraint and self defence to Police Prison and Custom Officers , this is my opinion .
@ienamaculata10 жыл бұрын
Kata are not a proof of ability in street fighting, they're a demonstration of precision and technic ability, and of a great control of body and balance. All of these qualities are very useful in a real fighting, also if you won't use these shown and achrobatic techniques. Please, sorry my horrible english.
@z06tiKo10 жыл бұрын
@foca is right. There is also kumite you know.
@flashsanjuro10 жыл бұрын
Tigran Martirosyan Of course Foca is right , and Kumite is also very useful , although there is no substitute for reality . However , that is down to the mental issue including the reaction when dealing with someone really trying to hurt you , and reacting once being hurt . The actual skills to required to perform have been honed and practised . It is also Gojuryu and shotokan .
